Thunderbird Road Sands Hall 328 Glendale, Arizona Hosted by their progressive Student Union Do you know your rights if you are stopped by the police? If a police officer asks you for identity, do you have to give it to him? Can he take a photo of you? Can he search your car without permission? This knowledge is especially important in the wake of several police beatings of Black youth throughout the nation this summer. This forum will answer these questions and more. Phoenix Copwatch, a volunteer group that videotapes the police in order to prevent police racism, brutality, and harassment, is co-sponsoring the event. The other co-sponsor is the Progressive Student Union, a new student group on the ASU West campus. Public defender Suzanne Sanchez will explain individuals9 rights and the police. Heather Villalobos, a founder of Phoenix Copwatch and an ASU West student, will speak on how Copwatch helps stop police brutality and harassment. The presentations will be followed by an open discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

If a police officer asks you for identity, do you have to give it to him? Can he take a photo of you? Can he search your car without permission? This knowledge is especially important in the wake of the beating of a Black youth in Inglewood, California this summer. This forum will answer these questions and more. Phoenix Copwatch, a volunteer group that videotapes the police in order to prevent police racism, brutality, and harassment, is sponsoring the event. Jay Ciulla, attorney and counsel for Phoenix Copwatch, will explain an individual's rights and the police. Eleanor Eisenberg, Executive Director of the Arizona Civil Liberties Union, will discuss an individual's rights and the F.B.I. Jean Reynolds, a founder of Phoenix Copwatch, will speak on how to stop police brutality and harassment. The presentations will be followed by an open discussion.
