POMPERAUG PANTHER FOOTBALL |
Welcome
to the Pomperaug Football Website Pomperaug earned its seventh win of the season Friday night with a 44-20 victory at New Fairfield. Kevin Maxen, who rushed for two touchdowns on the night, broke the game open for the Panthers when he recovered a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. The Panthers are now 7-2 on the season and will play Oxford for their regular season finale. In the Class LL State Playoff Points standings, the Panthers are ranked 11th. While they are not eliminated from qualifying for postseason play, Pomperaug will need to win and get help from several other teams in the state in order to make the State Playoffs. In other SWC news, Masuk remained undefeated with a 54-14 win over
Immaculate and Brookfield continued their hot streak with an impressive 40-12 victory over
Bunnell. Masuk continues to sit atop the Class L State Playoff Points standings and has
now officially secured a spot in the postseason. While not yet a lock, Brookfield's big
wins against Pomperaug and Bunnell have propelled them into the 4th position in the Class
M State Playoff Point Standings. Newtown also saw their playoff hopes improve in Class LL
as their win over Stratford on Friday moved them into 6th place. Newtown will play Masuk
in their annual Thanksgiving showdown on Wednesday night. The game will serve as the 2010
SWC Championship contest and may also effect the final State Playoff Point standings. |
