Great Grand Father Carmin Antonio DiCredico
Great Grand Father Carmin Antonio Di Credico originated from the
city of Torrevecchia Teatina, Chieti. Carmine was born on March
4, 1864. He married Maria Pietrocola on November 3,1882. Maria
was born on January 22, 1863.
Together CarminAntonio and Maria had 8 children. Their names were:
Luisa Maria Di Credico born on September 8,1883, Francesco Di Credico
born on July 17,1885, Angela Domenica Di Credico born on April 17,1887
Anna Di Credico born on April 12, 1889, Giuseppe Di Credico born on
January 25, 1891, Anna Di Credico born on February 20, 1893 (#2),Maria
Nicola Di Credico born on January 12, 1895 and Ciriaco Di Credico born
on October 26, 1897(Liza's grand father).
My grand father Ciriaco was the "baby" of the family. Back in the 1800's
it was very hard to feed a large family. The Di Credico's were many and
the food was small. The family hunger was so great that Carmin,(known
as Anthony to the relatives in Torrevecchia) was thinking of different
ways that he could work and produce more for his family. Also, thinking
of creating a better living for his children and wife.
On March 16th,1903, CarminAntonio immigrated to the United States in
search of "treasures" in a country where he was free. He immigrated
through Naples, Italy traveling through the ports of New York. Carmin
couldn't read, write or speak the english language when arriving in
America. But, he was brave and traveled on the ship called "Patricia".
Carmin had a total of $12.00 in his pocket when arriving in the United
States. This was indeed his first trip every in this country. He traveled
alone on his first time. His destination was the location of beautiful
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is where he met his brother in law
Tommaso Tacconelli who in return was married to CarminAntonio's wife
Maria's, step sister by the name of Bateena Pietrocola Tacconelli.
Carmine's wife Maria, came from wealthy families. Maria's parents were
Liberato Pietrocola born on April 30,1829. He married Elisabetta Franca-
villa born before 1826. Elisabetta died before 1868. Liberato married
once again to a woman by the name of Anna Domenica La Cioppa on April
18,1868.
Tommaso Tacconelli and Bateena Pietrocola had eloped to the United
States where they were married. The family very much disapproved of the
marriage.
Maria had stayed in Italy where she took care of the small children.
Maria was a proper person, always dressing nice and wearing her hair in
a bun on her head. Her father instilled in her to always look presentable
just incase people came to visit them and that she did. Maria was the
best mother. She was also an organizer, if someone needed a task done,
Maria was dependable.
CarminAntonio made many trips back and forth to the United States. When
his son's were old enough, it is said that he would make trips back and
forth, one at a time to the United States.
Ciriaco came to the United States on November 17, 1913. He traveled on
the "Canada" ship. He followed his fathers footsteps and traveled through
Naples and New York Port. He was 16 years old when he arrived in the
United States. He all the same, could not read, write or speak the english
language. On his manifest ship list sheet, he states his nearest relative
to him as November 17, 1913, was his father CarminAntonio who lived in
Chieti, Italy.
Ciriaco had never been in the United States on his own before. He paid
for his ticket and trip himself and had a total of $25.00 in his pocket
when arriving. His destination was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was
going to meet his brother Francesco Di Credico. Ciriaco was 5 foot 5
inches tall, dark complected, dark hair and a quiet person. He brought
with him taught from his Italian Roots the knowledge to build his own
home and a knowledge of how to work the ground and make the biggest
garden that grew the freshest of fruits and vegetables.
