Live Music in the Oompah Tradition! The AlpenMusikanten, a group of musicians made up of two German-Americans, Alan, and Clay; two Austrians, Manfred, and Wolfgang: and a Norwegian-American, Gordon; combine their talents and humor to create a memorable experience for the whole family. Alan Walling - began playing accordion at the age of 7 when he was only 6' tall and living in the Alpine region of Houston. After taking lessons from well-known accordionists for many years, he realized that the instrument was not just for serious music, but for polkas as well. Alan's professional career began when he was 16. He played with several groups (who prefer to remain anonymous) before the birth of AlpenMusikanten. Singing, yodeling, and a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time have driven his career to dizzying plateaus. He performs a wide variety of music and sub-par comedy at restaurants, private parties, and any other place that will pay. Clayton Paul - "Grande Paulken Master".
The keeper of the drums. Clayton has played professionally since the age
of 16. He has played gigs with Bo Didley, The Panhandlers, the Richardson
Symphony and Lewisville Symphony. This is his 12th year with the ALPENMUSIKANTEN.
He is a 1988 graduate of the University of North Texas. A once
original member of the World renowned and Award winning 1984, 1985 & 1986
North Texas Drumline under the director of Dr. Robert Schietroma. This is
where the "Grande Paulken" began. Clayton has studied
percussion with Dr. Schietroma, drumset with Colin Bailey and Ed Soph. He
consistently brings a tenacious mediocrity unhampered by taste to every musical
experience. A sight to behold every time. Manfred Zehentmayr - plays the clarinet, alto saxophone, and guitar. He has performed across the United States as a member of the Stratton Mountain Boys and the Sauerkrauts. He performs at various Dallas area restaurants, singing and yodeling to the crowd's delight! Wolfgang Lackner - playing bass guitar and lead guitar, also entertained as a member of the Stratton Mountain Boys and the Sauerkrauts. He performs at various Dallas area restaurants with Manfred. His musicianship, outstanding yodeling, and crazy humor brings another dimension to the group. Always a crowd favorite! Gordon Strand - Well, let's just say....... He's different. |
