Characters
Akanean people you'll encounter on your quest.
Marth: (Mars/Marus/Marusu/Mals) Prince of Aritia and descendant of Anri. In book one I often see people complaining about poor Marth's stats and lack of pants, but I beg to differ. Come on, he's a little KID! Have you ever seen a little kid in Fire Emblem who can actually kick ass in melee combat? (Chiki doesn't count. ^_^;) With all things considered, I think Marth is a good fighter, especially when given stat-boosting goodies. And as for the lack of pants, don't complain...look at young Link.
Kain: (Cain) A long-time friend of Marth's who has sworn to protect his lord no matter what. Kain is a loyal and powerful social knight with the ability to deliver powerful blows. A bit on the slow side, so don't expect him to dodge, but he does have a high defense to balance this out.
Abel: (Able/Abil) Kain's brother and also a social knight. (Abel and Kain...whoda thunk?) Abel's not quite as strong as his sibling, but much faster and with a slightly better range. The two make a good team.
Sheeda: (Sheida/Seeda) Princess of the Kingdom of Talis, and Marth's childhood friend. Personally, I've never liked Sheeda because she's so frail, but people are often raving about her strength stats. She's just not as well-rounded as the Pegasus Sisters are, so I generally rotate her out about the time I get them.
Jeigan: (Jaigan/Jegan) Another, more elder knight who swore long ago to protect Marth. People often refer to sucky characters in the Fire Emblem series as "Jeigan Characters" because Jeigan starts out as the most powerful character at the beginning of the game, but is quickly passed up by everyone else and soon can't match up himself. (Guess who the original Jeigan Character is?) Jeigan is a paladin equipped with a silver spear, and I've found that he can save your hide quite a few times in the earlier levels. Once the others start gaining stats, though, he's toast. Don't waste too much experience on him.
Doga: (Dohga) Da big man. Doga is a bohemmoth of a male with a killer defense. (He even shakes the ground when he walks across the screen. ~_^) While other enemies can waste their time attempting to harm him, he lumbers at them and attacks with an uprooted tree. Well, not really. Best armor knight in book one, however.
Gordan: Whoo! This cute and innocent childhood friend of Marth's is easily the best archer in the game (not to mention Doga's apparent sidekick). While young, he, like Marth, can not take too many hits (but neither can any other archer...), but after a few levels he'll be sniping out enemies like nobody's business.
Oguma: (Ogma) The SUPREME swordsmaster! Oguma is easily one of the best units in the game, and it's no wonder why. Insanely powerful stats that only raise even more insanely, you'll find that he'll mop up the map fairly quickly. Oguma is Sheeda's sworn protector, and bears the scars of former Dolunan enslavement.
Saji: Youngest of three axe-weilding warrior brothers under the command of Oguma. Is identical to his twin in almost every way.
Maji: Older twin and middle brother of the warrior trio. His stats are almost exactly like Saji's......which, if you haven't guessed yet, are painfully poor.
Bashi (Barts): Eldest of the warrior brothers and actually rather skilled with an axe, Bashi managed to surprise me with his strength and skill ratings. If you're looking for a solid fighter who can attack from both closeup and afar, Bashi's your man.
Kashim: (Kashashim) A pure-hearted archer who joined the enemy army to earn money to save his sick mother, Kashim changed sides when Sheeda gave him the money to complete his goal. Kashim easilly makes a perfect partner for Gordon, and while Gordon will eventually premote to the stronger sniper class, Kashim, being a hunter-class archer, will premote to the swifter Horseman archer. (Converted by Sheeda)
Navaare: (Nabarl/Navahl/Navvare) A wandering merc who's not sure which side he's on, much to rival Oguma's annoyance. Navaare has been secretly watching Julian's attempts to rescue Rena and persues them once they escape. Once Sheeda talks some sense into him, however, he'll join your team as a close matchup to master Oguma. Almost, but not quite.
Rena: (Reena/Lena) The High Priestess of Macedonia who fled to Garda when Prince Michael sought her to be his bride, Rena was kidnapped by a swarm of bandits when she went to aid the poor. Rena is easily the best healer in the game, and makes a pretty good fighting mage as well at premotion. You can't win without her.
Julian: (Jurian) A man with a mysterious background, brave Julian is Rena's true love. Upon her kidnapping, he betrayed his fellow bandits in order to sneak into her jail cell and rescue her. Julian starts out very weak, but after some work, actually turns out to be a fairly good fighter. Aside from that, he has the ability to open chests, lower bridges and pick locked doors.
Hardain: (Hardin) Brother of the King of Orleans, Hardain is now the most senior royal on the continent. (which isn't saying much) Hardain is a vicious social knight, and IMHO makes even Kain look pale in comparison. Even unmounted he can faire as a formidible swordsman. Once he's premoted to the Paladin class, he becomes almost unstoppable! Now if he would only loose the towel wrapped around his head...
Zaggaro: A horseback archer from a noble Orlean family who has sworn allegiance to Hardain. Not much to say about him, I don't use him because he's weak.
Ulf: (Wolf) Ulf, however, is supreme. Though already premoted, he's managed to surprise me as an archer character. He's not quite as strong as a premoted Kashim, but certainly can work well with him. I definitely recommend him. Ulf is also a loyal soldier to Hardain, having risen rapidly up the ranks despite his poor upbringing.
Roshe: The leader of a tiny squad of four equestrians who Princess Nina of Akanea assigned to protect Hardain and help him escape the Dolunans' clutches. Roshe is a social knight who is fiercely loyal to Hardain and willing to give his all to protect him. Too bad he sucks.
Villuck: Social knight companion to Roshe. Don't even bother with him.
Marchis: (Mateys) Somehow, he is Rena's brother, but.....I have never seen a character so weak in my life. Not only does this social knight suck, but he looks dumb, too. He totally defiles the game. Marchis was forced into the Macedonian army as punishment for his sister's refusal to marry Michael, whom he is fiercely loyal to. While pure of heart, he is reluctant to betray his prince. (Converted by Rena, not that you should bother)
Maric: (Marich/Marik) A gentlemanly mage who has been very loyal to the kingdom of Aritia. Maric's connection to the wind element makes him unstoppable against all enemies. His personalized spell, the Excalibur, often takes out Bosses and Dragonriders alike in one hit. You can NOT afford to have this guy sitting out off your team.
Ricardo: (Ricard/Richard) O.o....This is a guy? Well, he's Julian's Godbrother. Hm. The fact that he flirts with Julian should give you a clue on how useful he is. Genius Ricardo tried to steal from the Orleans palace and got captured along with Wendel. Now he's counting on you to save him. (Converted by Julian)
Wendel: A wizened priest who was once Maric's mentor. In his old age, he just plain sucks. (Converted by Maric)
Banetou: (Banutu) Poor Banetou never gets any slack. A Mamcoot far past his prime, Banetou swore to King Narga he would protect and guide Chiki (His own granddaughter) at all costs. Unfortunately, his frailness was taken advantage of, and Chiki was kidnapped. People always complain about Banetou and his uselessness as a Mamcoot, but he's saved me countless times in earlier levels. If anything, he's a good decoy for luring dragonriders and such away from your less-hardier units until you can move in and attack them. After a while Banetou's strength and skill just don't cut it against the stronger, faster enemies, but for at least half the game he can offer your army great protection.
Raddy: (Lordy) I'll be honest...I've never used him. Eaichu250 says that if you take the time to level him up, however, he "easily turns out to be the best Merc in book one". He and Caezar are the chief guardians of the Aritian port of Warren.
Caezar: Haven't used him before either, but Eaichu250 tells me that he's Raddy's complete opposite anyways.
Maria: The youngest sibling of Macedonia's royal family, Maria was captured and held hostage in order for the Dolunan army to manipulate Minerva with ease. This tiny healer is good at what she does, however, and can work well by Rena's side. (Converted by Marth)
Minerva: The middle sibling in the Macedonian royal family, Minerva joined the army as a general dragonrider only to try and defeat the attempts of her power-hungery older brother, Prince Michael. Due to influence from the three Pegasus Sisters who work underneath her command, she has become overly cautious and now isn't sure which side she's on. A fairly good unit, nothing too spectacular. Once Paola premotes she's pretty much out of the picture. (Converted by Marth)
George: (Jorjue) A sniper archer from Bares who seems to have a way with the ladies, George boasts speed and strength. Some people say he sucks, but I like him. Having him work together with a premoted Gordon can be quite some fun.
Linda: (Rinda) Daughter of Akanea's great sage Miroa, Linda has been captured and sold into slavery. Linda boasts extrordinary powers! Her Rizzah spell renders her almost invincible, as she can take back HP lost with it, and her Aura spell is even more powerful than Excalibur. You can't afford to loose Linda, so keep her with you at all times.
Medea: (Midia) One of the few female knights in Fire Emblem history, Medea is a strong and formidable paladin who can match pretty well with Hardain. She has been a long time friend of both Astoria and George, but has now fallen for the former.
Toms: An armor knight from Medea's squadron who looks like Mr. Clean. He's alright, but Doga is far better. I really don't use him.
Michelan: Same as Toms, only this guy has his own tire company in Akanea.
Boa: Medea's old mentor, thrown into prison right alongside her after the fall of Bares. Look at the hat. Now look at his name. Put two and two together and you should figure out how useful he is. Plus he stole Wendel's pallet.
Thomas: An Akanean archer who is the younger brother of Zaggaro. Can't match up to Gordon/Kashim/Ulf/George, so don't bother.
Paola: (Paora/Pala/Paula) The eldest of three pegasus-riding princess-sisters, pure-hearted Paola and her younger siblings fled their kingdom when Doluna invaded. She fought under Minerva's command, but only so Minerva could lead she and her sisters to Marth. Paola is the best flying unit in the game, with massive speed, luck and skill ratings. She may not beat her sisters in defense, strength and HP ratings, but she doesn't have to -- she'll be smearing the enemies across the map with her critical hits anyways! (Converted by Marth)
Katua: (Kachua) The middle Pegasus Sister, Katua generally turns out to be the one with the most defense and HP. She's a close match for Paola, but is just slightly handicapped due to her smaller dodge/skill rate. She still rocks in either case, and is a perfect companion to fly by her sister's side. (Converted by Marth)
Astoria: (Astria) Long-time best friend of Medea (now in love with her as well), this hero can be quite the good fighter. While he may not compare to Oguma and Navaare, he sure isn't far behind. (Converted by Medea)
Chainey: (Yes, that's a GUY!) Of a class that only shows up in two games, Chainey comes from a mysterious tribe that bears the ability to transform into almost any one of your units. (This discludes Mamcoots, Dancers and Sisters.) He's got a killer magic defense, but can't fight untransformed and really can't fight while transformed either. Bench him. (Converted by Marth)
Samson: (Samuson) From a village located right next to Alan's, you must choose between recruiting this hero or getting another paladin, as the two do not get along and will lock their gates. Samson's not too bad a swordsman, but he can't really par to even Astoria. Looks like my 10th grade history teacher. ; P
Alan: Another paladin and the former leader of Aritia's knight squadrons, now located next to Samson. He's no good; take Samson any day.
Chiki: (Tiki) Daughter of the Dragon King Narga and heir to the Mamcoot throne, Chiki takes home the award for being the CUTEST CHARACTER EVER in a video game! Young and innocent, Chiki was kidnapped by the Dolunans and put under a spell by the evil High Priest Garnef so that she would fight in the name of Medeus, and only Banetou can snap her out of it. Hailed as a goddess by the Dolunans, Chiki can use the power of any dragon stone to transform, but only she can transform with the power of the God Dragon stone into her own special dragon type. Since she's so young, her God Dragon form is small in effect as well, but still packs a punch. Not only can she fly while still not being prone to arrows, but she has an advantage against all other dragons as well.
Est: Youngest of the Pegasus Sisters, Est didn't join Paola and Katua earlier because she went off to save the Miracle Sword from the hands of the enemy. Now she returns with sword in hand, ready to fight! Don't let Est's low stats fool you...they'll rocket up unbelieveably fast, turning her into the most well-rounded of the three sisters. With Est in hand, you can now also perform the Triangle attack around your enemies. Just have Paola, Katua and Est surround the same enemy and command one of them to attack to perform tripple the damage!
Lawrence: An old general who doesn't want to give up the fight for his country but totally detests his king. This long-time friend of Sheeda's father is pretty good, and stronger and more skilled than Doga, but not as fast. (Converted by Sheeda)
Ellis: (Elis/Alice) Marth's beloved older sister with the power to revive the dead. Ellis is wise beyond her years and both very protective and nurturing of her younger sibling. Unfortunately, you get her too late in the game and the Ohm Staff she carries is too weak for her to be of any use.

BOOK TWO CHARACTERS
Marth: (Marus/Mars/Marusu/Mals) This time nobody complains about Marth. ;) Now five years older, the little pants-less prince has grown up and matured into quite the handsome young man. (Erm...I'll turn off SSBM now...) Not only that, but he is easily one of the best units in the game. Like Paola, his speed and skill are insane; if he doesn't dodge, he's sure to get a critical hit, but usually those two are in succession! Hoshi orb fragments make him gain even more insane stats. And hey...he's even got pants this time.
Cecilia: (Cecil/Sisil) The only other female knight in the game, Cecilia, guardian of the Rahman temple, actually makes for a pretty good fighter. She's got that pegasus knight dodge-and-then-blow-'em-away-with-a-critical-hit quality about her that is very valluable.
.....And then there's Roddy.
.......And his rival, Luke............
Alan: Hmm...the only thing they did here is swap Jeigan for Alan. Which was stupid, because even Jeigan's better than that. Alan becomes pretty much useless after the second level.
Doga: (Dohga) Da Big Man is back, now stronger and faster than ever! Doga actually dodges this time, and can take out most enemeies by himself. Upgrading this guy to a general turns him into a walking tank.
Gordon: Gordon makes his triumphant return to blast all enemies out of the sky! Now he too is more powerful than ever, and comes complete with...
...little brother Ryan! Not only is Ryan adorable, but even more powerful than his big brother. Beware his lack of HP and defense, though.
Marissa: (Malissa/Malesia) The grey hair on such a young girl makes me think of the Sheikah race from OOT. Marissa may seem small and weak, but don't let her fool you...she's got some neat tricks up her sleeve! Only she can use the weapon-repairing Harman staff, as well as the chest-opening Thief staff.
Katua: (Kachua) The middle pegasus sister returns to lend you aid early on in the game. Even stronger now than ever before, she'll be flying a-dragonback in no time.
Warren: A rugged hunter-archer attracted to Katua. He's okay for the level, but can't match up to Gordan and Ryan. (Converted by Katua)
Linda: (Rinda) The all-powerful mage mistress returns with Aura and Rizzah in her inventory. This time go round, she'll best Maric.
Paola: (Paora/Pala/Paula) The oldest pegasus sister triumphantly returns! Paola is INSANELY strong now, and light years in front of the rest of your party level and stat-wise. I call her the Dragonslayer in this book because her massive power allows her to tackle dragonriders and fire-dragons on her own. She'll become your dragon knight way before even Katua, and her insane enemy-smackdown won't stop there.
Julian: (Jurian) The little thief returns! Julian's skill rating is psycotic this go round...give him a kill sword and watch the fun.
Marchis: (Mateys)........I'd like to know what the designers were thinking when they put him back in here. (Converted by Julian)
Yubello: The tiny son of Grunia's now-deceased King Lui, Yubello tries his best to protect his sister by using his recently-learned fire magic. Unfortunately, Yubello's too young and new at this to be a very good mage.
Yumina: Yubello's older sister, Yumina, is also struggling to get her skills up to par in order to survive. Fortunately, she can make it, and tends to be the better healer than Marissa. Affectionate towards Oguma and quick to learn, Yumina is also very crutial to your team: only she can use the rescue staff, which is vital to obtaining certain characters trapped in sticky situations.
Sirius: A mysterious paladin who claims he rides in order to protect Akanea's royalty (though it's pretty obvious who he really is. hint: look at the picture without the mask). Sirius kicks Hardain out from the position of Best Paladin Ever. Seriously, this guy ROCKS, premoted or not. The closest thing to a male pegasus rider I've ever seen. You'll be sorry if you don't use him. (Converted by Oguma)
Note: A lot of confusion surrounds the FE community regarding how Camus made a return. In the first book, when Ellis takes you to the Dolunan temple, that "long lost friend" she revives with her Ohm staff is Camus. Camus disappears after that, but he resurfaces years later in Grunia as "Sirius" to join up with the Aritian army on his quest to rescue Nina from Hardain.
Oguma: (Ogma) I didn't think he could get any better, but he sure as heck did! I pitty da foo' who gets in Oguma's way...
Kashim: (Kashashim) Cornered in his Grunian hometown village by an oncoming hoard of vikings and bandits, Kashim got lucky when Oguma and Sirius showed up. Grateful to his old allies, he decided to rejoin the Aritian army to help stop Hardain. Not too much changes with Kashim statwise, but he does start out with a killer bow -- watch the fun! (Converted by Marth)
Sheeda: (Sheida/Seeda) Mmnh...She's alright, but Paola and Katua make her look so pale in comparison that I tend not to put her into too many fights. Her kill lance comes in handy, but it's not enough to balance out her utter frailness.
Ricardo: *cough* Take his member card and ditch him. (converted by Julian)
Samuto: It's a pegasus! It's a dragon! It's Navaare! NOT. Lame ol' Sam here disguised himself as Navaare in order to be hired by General Lang, but he sure as heck ain't Navaare. Take his kill sword and bench him. (Converted by Oguma)
Wendel: DragoonT said it best: "Proof that you can't teach an old dog new tricks."
Navaare: (Nabarl/Navahl/Navvare) Now HERE'S the real guy! This time Navaare and Oguma are complete equals...both get godlike stats.
Fina: A young Silvite mage sent by her Elders to gather Arcadia's moon crystals after her brother Ramirez failed to do so, Fina finds herself in trouble when her defenseless airship is attacked by........oops. Wrong Fina.
Fina: (Fhina/Feena) A tiny dancer with a huge crush on said merc. Fina and Navaare find themselves lost in a forest full of hostile bandits making off with ancient Mamcoot relics, but that doesn't mean she can't fight back. Once given some Angels Robes, Fina can make a sw33t little gutter fighter. Not only can she wield the rapier, but she can dance to give an already-used character another turn as well. You won't believe what this girl can do with a lady sword. Gets her own catchy battle music, too. ^_^
Kain: (Cain/Kayin) Kain appears a bit too late in the game for my liking. While he's still as strong as ever, I've usually got Cecilia passing him up by this time. Stick to her and Sirius.
Banetou: (Banutu) Sadly, Banetou isn't as useful in the second book as he is in the first. Keep him around though...he's useful in combat against ice dragons.
George: (Jorjue) George returns, and this time he even has the Partia with him! Keep him with Gordon and Ryan and you'll have a killer team. (Converted by Gordon)
Minerva: Having been kidnapped by her older brother Michael, Minerva is now hidden away in a remote desert village. Like Kain, she appears a bit too late for my liking, and ends up being bested by Paola and Katua. Sort of a Sheeda character, if you will.
Maric: (Marich/Marik) Geez, everyone in this game is getting kidnapped. This time around Maric's in a spot of trouble, faced up against his angry rival. Don't let him get killed!
Elren: The Thunder Mage, good-looking Elren is Maric's rival. Not quite as skilled as Maric, Elren still is able to fry whatever's in his path with his trademark spell, Torron. I recommend using him strongly. ^_^ (converted by Wendel)
Chainey: Why is he back? Why? It's not like he's any more useful now than he was before!
Chiki: (Tiki) The little Dragon Princess is back, and this time she's grown up! Chiki has matured into an affectionate Mamcoot with a liking towards Marth. Not only that, but now she can fully transform into the foxlike god dragon, which kicks some major ass. Don't leave without her!
Est: The youngest pegasus sister finally makes her appearance, once again with low stats. But again, don't underestimate her. Est won't leave you disappointed!
Sheema: A massive favorite of most FE gamers, the stubborn and powerful Sheema makes her debut as the ONLY female armor in Fire Emblem history! (Well...until Wendy came along in FE6) Sheema stands out with her red eyes and trademark pink armor, but won't join your cause if you kill her people...(Converted by Marth)
Samson: Samson is actually much better in this book, as his strength is almost completely maxed out. Put him together with Astoria, Navaare and Oguma and you'll easily have a death squad. (Converted by Sheema)
Abel: (Able/Abil) Poor Abel's been mislead. He dashes after Marth in an attempt to kill him, and Marth ain't too happy about that. Used to be good, but now even at his paladin status, Abel just comes in too late to be of much use. (Converted by Marth)
Astoria: (Astria) Oy. He persues you in three chapters with his huge-ass army, and all three times your only option is to flee. And THEN he shows up in Marth's castle with the Miracle Sword, but is finally willing to listen to somebody and convert to your cause. Go figure. (Converted by George)
Roshe: The only one of Hardain's cronies who will join your cause, Roshe will await you in Norda if you spare he and his comrades in the previous level. He may be a paladin now, but that's nothing to celebrate over. Bench him.
Medea: (Midia) Captured by Hardain in an attempt at luring Marth and Co. out of his palace, Medea is YALC, or Yet Another Late Character. Sorry, Medea.
Maria: Kidnapped by Garnef and hypnotized by Medeus so that she would serve him, the Dark Dragon hoped his posession of Maria would force Macedonia to re-join with him and weaken Minerva's morale. Unless she's snapped out of her spell, Maria will defend Medeus until her death. (Converted by Minerva)
Rena: (Reena/Lena) Kidnapped by Garnef and hypnotized by Medeus so that she would serve him, the Dark Dragon was interested in Rena for her extraordinary healing powers and her value as a priestess. Unless snapped out of her spell, Rena will defend Medeus until her death. (Converted by Julian)
Nina: Perhaps Garnef's most valuable catch, Nina was hypnotized my Medeus so that she would serve him. Hoping to get alegiance from Akanea and Orleans, Medeus kept Nina close by for her knowledge of the continent and ancient legends, and for her powers in magic. Unless snapped out of her spell, Nina will defend Medeus until her death. (Converted by Sirius)
Ellis: (Elis, Alice) In keeping up with the current tradition of hypnotizing important women and kidnapping Ellis, the Princess of Aritia was stollen yet again not only so Medeus could demand allegiance from Aritia, but also to lure Marth to him. Obviously, Medeus plans to kill both Ellis and Marth at once, ending Anri's bloodline and avenging the saint who killed him once and for all. Unless snapped out of her spell, Ellis will defend Medeus until her death. (Converted by Maric, who has a HUGE crush on her)
