Andy Lau Live in San Francisco 2002
March 24, 2002, Sunday
Henry J. Kaiser Arena
Preparations : Gathered a great group of 14 people, and most of us were prepared for the November concert, but unfortunately it was postponed because of the September 11th attack and the war leading on. But it was great that he still made an effort to come here for the concert on March 24, 2002.
We set-up our own group emailing one another, planning on the glow sticks, uniform, poster boards, and gifts. With multiple emails, we prepared ourselves in a month time, and we were all prepared several days before his arrival.
**Thank You Terrie, Junko, Kumi, Miki, Christina, Simona, Rita, Katie, Lin, Van, Angela, Tina, & Yen... I think we did great with agreeing on all parts of the planning!! **
Airport Welcome : Andy arrives on March 23, 2002 on Cathay Pacific coming from Hong Kong. The flight was scheduled to arrive at 12:40pm, but comes in a little early, although he doesn’t make it out of the customs until 1:30pm. But we were all very prepared, and we all arrived early. We were all ready in our uniforms and poster boards to welcome him. There were also a lot of other fans to welcome him with gifts and flowers. We watched him on the monitor to see who are entering the airport, and finally we saw him in white, so we all went forward, and of course there was security, but I managed to go up to him to say “Wah Zhai Wah Zhai, Eat Pringles!!” He smiled and said “Thank You” and in a rush with all fans surrounding him, he managed to get to the Limo, and headed to the hotel. We were hoping to see Shirley come with him, but I think she came with the other dancers, but we also saw the choreographer, Sunny Wong, coming out alone before Andy. We had a poster ready for Shirley but she never got to see it.
Hotel Gathering (March 23rd): We gathered together at the Sheraton Hotel to do some planning, and to share experiences some have encountered with Andy. We stayed at the hotel’s club lounge and talked until almost 4pm, so we decided to go eat. And so when we got down to the lobby we saw Joe, Andy’s assistant, and so we stayed at the lobby, while Terrie, Junko, Kumi, and Miki were talking to the receptionist at the counter taking care of some business, and soon before we knew Andy did come down. He was very happy, he said to the people, “Ai-yah, who said it was not cold, wah, its very cold” then he came back inside, and he said “Okay, Hurry!!” He was standing in front of me when saying this, but I didn’t know what he meant, but Tina was lucky she got a signature from him, while he was signing I asked him nicely in Cantonese, “Can we take pictures?”, but he also nicely responded in English, “Ohhh sorrie, I am in a rush!!” so I said “Its okay!!” Then he started walking outside and I shouted “Are you going to eat?” he turned around and responded with a smile “Yes!!” and then he got in the van and waved back to us and then drove away.
**Too bad we didn’t know he went to Downtown shopping, otherwise we would have probably went too, but we went there after we ate around 6:00pm**
Post-Concert (March 24th) : We waited and finally we saw a Limo turn in on the street few blocks away so I ran over there, and waited, while all the securities formed a line. Andy came out of his limo with the baby blue puffy jacket with jeans and white shoes (**I was really observing him =D**) and luckily I was the only one standing there, so when he was walking to the door, I shouted “Wah Zhai” and he looked over with a big smile and a wave and said “Hi!!” (**my heart completely melted because I was the only one there, Van only stood along the side**)

Our Final Good-Byes (March 25th) : Katie and I saw Maggie in the Lobby around 9:15am, so we asked her, but she said ask Joe because she was going to the airport and only Joe was returning to the hotel. So as soon as he came back, we ask him, but before we asked him, he just told us go upstairs first. So we followed and he said, “Let me ask him first, because he is still sleeping, we don’t know if he wants to take pictures.” The security people were there too, and I asked my friend, if they were going to take pictures with him, and they said they don’t know either. Then Joe came out and said, “Okay, pictures are okay, but only group pictures and only one camera. Okay wait in front of the elevator.”
So Terrie, Junko, Kumi, Miki, Christina, Simona, Rita, Katie, and I waited there with our uniforms on. Andy came out looking quite tired, he took the picture with the security people first, and then with us. He was quite tired but happy to see us. Katie gave him a shirt before the concert at the hotel, so she asked if he wore it and he showed us that he was wearing it, and then we took our picture. And we said Thank you, and I went to him and shook his hand and said “Wah Zhai, Come back Soon” he looked at me and smiled, and nodded his head. And I was holding onto his hand, and he didn’t try to get away from me, I was so happy. =D Then they really had to go because he had to go check-in at the airport. So they all got in the elevator, and we shouted our byes. We turned around and saw that we haven’t even given him the cards and our final gifts, so we hurried and pressed the button to go downstairs, finally an elevator came, we were getting ready to rush in, but then it was full, and it was them, Andy in the back, =D they said they accidentally went upstairs. So I shouted, “Wah Zhai, we forgot to give you some presents” He looked up and smiled. He took it and looked in it the bag. Then the doors started to close, and this time it was really our final good bye.
My Final Thoughts : I am very happy that our planning was good, and he acknowledged that there was the fans there. He was very happy because when we shouted “Wah Zhai Wah Zhai Wah Zhai” he told the audience, “those are my special people, just learn from them and shout for me whenever you guys want to” and we shouted “You Are the Pride of Our Lives” and he said “Thank You” I think with so many months of planning, I am very happy that everyone appreciates my help. I really think this is the best weekend I can have. Although the times were short but they were all very worthwhile. I also want to Thank everyone for these great times. I really hope to keep in touch with everyone and hopefully next time when Andy comes, we can get-together again, and show our support and hopefully have more people to come so he knows that his fan club members are expanding here, and hopefully one day he can come here for a gathering. I think we did great as his fan club members, by showing our full support but also being very understanding, we would not force him to take pictures when he said no. This was very memorable for us, and hopefully we made it a good memory for Andy.
We Love You and We Already Miss You!!
I wish him great success in his coming years.
Congratulations on the great success of the concert.
**Thank You Joe, Maggie, and Ka Le, who tried their best to help us relating messages to Andy**
