2008 Fast Electrics Nationals Winners

 7-8-08
For this months editorial I mulled over many subjects but I decided on 'what do we need to enhance Fast Electric racing'. This is a daunting task for our hobby but it must be discussed. Some questions that must be asked: do we need a Fast Electric commissioner that is voted into office as a director and not be appointed to office?  Do we need a rule book that is for Fast Electric only, so that we do not have to refer to Gas/Nitro rules for clarification? Do we pick the Fast Electric Nationals as we have in the past on a counter rotation around the US among the clubs or has the time come to look at combining Gas/Nitro and Fast Electric racing? As it is now all NAMBA members can vote on all proposals whether it is Gas/Nitro or Fast Electric--is it time that each group vote only on their proposals? These are just a few major questions that need to be answered in the future.

On another note, should almost ready to run boats be added to the National classes? The Super v27 has been run at the last 2 Fast Electric Nationals. Rules that were written by the Puget Sound Fast Electrics Model Boat Club for the sv27 class are being used in some form by most clubs around the US. A new tunnel hull is in production in the almost ready to run class for "OPC" along with a "Pickle Fork" hydro. Should specific rules be written for these hulls also?

In the last few years we have lost boaters and gained boaters to the hobby. Some of the loss is because of new technology and some because of  family or health issues or work commitments. But new racers will come as long as the existing clubs help and mentor the newcomer. All club members must be open and helpful to anyone that asks a question or looks interested. New members may feel intimidated by record winners and longtime racers so it is our job to make them feel they can compete and feel comfortable in our clubs. As we all know this is a hobby and should be fun at all times. Newcomers need to see the fun and openness of our clubs across the country. So lets keep the help and good times coming to keep our hobby moving forward with new competitors.
