Lo-Flow O2 Administration via Nasal

1. Indication
-
1.1 A possible candidate for this O2 delivery device must have: an
-
1.1.1 FiO2 requirement of 35% or less
-
1.1.2 is frequently removed from hood or ambient O2,
-
1.1.3 is an older patient with a chronic O2 requirement
-

2. Equipment needed;
-
2.1 Lo-flow O2 flowmeter (25-200 cc/min) or (0-3 l/min) on it
-

3. Procedure:
-
3.1 Attach flowmeter to only a 100% O2 source.
Do not use a blender.

3.2 Set ordered flow (flow not to exceed 1.5 l/m or less
than 25cc).

3.3 Cut off prongs to proper length for custom fit to
assure nares are not occluded.

3.4 Apply cannula to patient face with Tegaderm tape for proper fit.

3.5 As with all administration of O2, PaO2 should be
monitored by abg or noninvasive O2 monitor.

3.6. Maintain TCPO2 or O2 Saturation per policy.
