Power Ranger Actor Interview

From: Disney Adventures April 1994

D.A.: Are you anything like your Power Ranger character?

David: [joking] Absolutely not!
Austin: Yeah, he's a nerd!
David: Billy's not a nerd! He's really super intelligent. I'm not stupid, but I'm not into inventing things like Billy. And I don't wear overalls and glasses.
Austin: If someone has a problem, I want to hear about it. If I can't fix it, I want to make an effort. The same as my character.
Walter: Zack is very adventurous and curious and energetic. And all that is a part of me. I love dancing and making people amile.
Amy Jo: Kimberly's into her clothes and the way she looks. And I'm the opposite of that.
Thuy: Trini is very quiet, which I am. She's very a strong character on screen and I'm very strong. If something's wrong, I need to express it.

D.A.: Which Power Ranger would be the next Prez?

Austin: I would.
Walter: I would.
Thuy: Me! Trini! The next woman president!
David: I think it would be Billy.
Amy Jo: Billy.
Austin: My character's strong point is political science
David: Yeah, but Jason's a jock.
Austin: Jason's not a jock. He's a very athletic student who takes a lot of pride in what he does.
Walter: Jock!

D.A.: Which Power Ranger eats the most?

Austin: Jason.
Walter: Zack.
Thuy: Jason.
Amy Jo: Zack.
Austin: Yeah, OK, it's Zack. He sits down at these big bowls of ice cream. Like bathtubs of ice cream.

D.A.: Since you do your own stunts, how do you keep in shape?

Austin: I've been studying martial arts since I was 5. I help instruct too.
David: I life weights ans stretch. Most of our episodes are a workout. Expecially the Putty fights.
Amy Jo: Thuy and I work out with a stuntman. He's teaching us martial arts.

D.A.: Do you hang out together?

Walter: Yeah, we play volleyball, football, go rock climbing, do gymnastics.
Amy Jo: Thuy and I go to flea markets. I let Thuy do the talking 'cause she's a good bargainer.
Thuy: Last weekend Amy Jo got the coolest suede jacket for $20!
David: All of us went out for my birthday and sand karaoke songs.
Austin: Me, David, and an assistant director sang a rap song. We nicknamed ourselves "The Suedes."
David: I got up with Amy Jo and sang a song from "Grease."
Walter: I sang "Great Balls of Fire."

D.A.: Who are your favorite super heros?

Austin: Superman.
Thuy: Wonder Woman.
Walter: Mighty Mouse.
David: Robin Hood.
Amy Jo: The Wonder Twins.

D.A.: Have you seen the Power Rangers dolls?

David: We have the old ones. We haven't seen the new ones with our faces on them yet.
Walter: My dad was walking around downtown attacking the doll's in people's faces, asking "If anyone wants to meet my son- Here's Mastadon!"

D.A.: Do you get recognized?

Amy Jo: The others do. It never happens to me. I don't wear makeup, and I don't dress in pink at all.
Thuy: I don't usually dress in yellow.
Amy Jo: But you look like Trini. I don't look like Kimberly.
Walter: After the earthquake, I went to some shelters to try to cheer up the kids. When some kids watching TV saw me their mouths dropped open. "You look just like Zack from the Power Rangers!" they said. And a whole bunch of kids crowded all around me.
Austin: I was playing a video game at a sports center. This kid asked my frineds, "Is that the Red Ranger?" They said, "Yeah, that's Jason." Soon, kids are all around me. One kid comes up to me, "Can you do a backflip?" I said, "Let's go outside." Pretty soon, I'm doing some handsprings, jump kicks, more backflips. It was a lot of fun.

D.A.: Any last words for our readers?

All: It's morphin time! Let's go save the world!
