Power Rangers Star Killed in Car Crash

WESTMINSTER, CA- On September 3, 2001 Thuy Trang, the 28-year-old actress who portrayed Trini, the yellow ranger on TV's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", died in an automobile crash. The accident reportedly occured on Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Trang, who was born in Hanoi, Vietnam, during the Vietnam War, fled her homeland at age 6 with her mother and siblings after the fall of Saigon and later joined her father in the United States. While studying at the University of California at Irvine, she began doing modeling and commercials. Her manager encouraged her to audition for a role in "Power Rangers", a story about five teenagers who are recruited to protect the earth from an evil sorceress. An accomplushed kung fu stylist, she easily landed the role.
Although she remained on the series for only one year (1993), Trang went on to star in feature films, including "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and "Spy Hard". In 1996 she landed the role of Kali in "The Crow: City of Angels".
