From A Male Point Of View

Tea-time with Charles (Move over Dunk!) LOL.

Name: Charles Nelson

Age: 17

Gender: MALE

Location: Tauranga, New Zealand

How did you first learn about BLUE?

When All rise was first released in New Zealand, I was immediately drawn to it.

This “attraction” if you could call it that, prompted me to try and find out about the people who sang it, and where I could download a version. I couldn’t find any downloads, so I ended up forgetting about the whole thing.

After Blue released Too close, their second single, I could safely assume that I was turning into a fan of their music.

I managed to find copies of both songs on the Internet, and at the same time, learnt a little bit about the band.

What makes you like BLUE music?

The same thing that makes other people like their music I guess. To me, it’s different to other music. It’s easy to listen to, and you can never get sick of it (well at least that’s what I found). I have been playing the album since I got it on the Day that Blue came to New Zealand, and even though it has probably been played more than 250 times, I still love it the same as I did the 10th time I played it. There is just something about it that is different to other music.

Have you ever met BLUE before?

Yes, I met the lads when they travelled to New Zealand in late November of 2001, during their twin performances at Rumba in Australia.

How did you learn that BLUE were coming to New Zealand?

I actually heard on a local radio station about a month prior to them arriving. In that time, I must have entered about 70 competitions to ensure that I won.

Did you go to the concert?

Of course! I won a competition through Virgin records and the prize was a double pass to the concert, some Blue Paraphernalia and a special double pass to meet them. I however owe it all to the female deejay of a local radio station. She encouraged me to enter the competition, and promised that she would give me a double pass to the concert if I was unsuccessful, so if it weren’t for her, I probably wouldn’t have won the prize at all.

So After meeting them, what did you think?

They were absolutely Wicked. What more can I say? They honestly had to be the nicest guys that I have ever met.

Ant and Dunk were very entertaining and they spent a lot of time talking, as well as cracking the frequently lame jokes that they are renowned for.

Lee was also quite entertaining, but apologised for his lack of enthusiasm due to illness. He was also still upset about his out of the blue New York comments, and you could feel that he wasn’t his normal self. I found Simon to be the quiet one of the group. He didn’t say much, and although he was really friendly, my attention was drawn to the other three more. (They were all being clowns, especially Ant)

Overall, if I had to cast a vote out of 10 for their personalities when I met them, it would be 9 for all of ‘em. I don’t want to make out they’re perfect, because I know that in their own ways, they are not.

Who is your Favourite BLUE member?

That is a question that I get asked a lot. With these guys, they’ve all got something that I think makes them unique. Whether its Ant’s humour or Lee’s singing, Dunk’s Personality or perhaps Simon’s shyness, they all have something that makes them wicked. So the answer is no, I don’t favourite any of them.

Are you Gay?

Absolutely and totally not. no, No, NO, NO!

Ok, lets move on.

What makes a female fan different to a male fan?

Well, there should be no difference at all. Blue is a group that produces quality music, and that is what most people want to see. Of course, you get the people that only see the personal side of the Lads, and none other than sex and image.

Perhaps this is why Guys don’t usually associate their likings to “Boy bands”.

In case they would be labelled as gay, which in true fact, is a load of crap.

Female fans of female artists aren’t all Lesbians are they? Cos if they are, then there are a hell of a lot of Lesbians around. I think a lot of my interest in the band was brought by meeting them and finding out what sort of people they are in real life. They really are just normal people doing normal things. We should treat them like normal people, instead of oh so mighty and famous. Perhaps then, they would get a lot more support from Male fans.

What advice do you have for uprising Blue fans?

Get out there and support the lads. Buy the albums/singles and show them that you are a true supporter. That’s it really. I’m sure they would appreciate you’re support more than anything else.

Cheers

Charles
