Decision Time ~ by Tammie Evans
Introduction
You may recognise the names Lee Ryan, Antony Costa, Simon Webbe and Duncan James as the UK boy band Blue. But to me, they are much more than that, more like brothers, but one day changed everything between us, especially with two of those four lads. This is how it happened…
Chapter One
(1st December 2002, morning – Sound check for the opening night of the boy’s first night at Wembley Arena, London)
‘Lee will you flipping calm down you’re making me nervous, and this is only the rehearsal’. Ant was getting really peeved off with Lee’s jumping around the stage. ‘Sorry mate but you know how nervous I get especially before we go on stage’ he said, but quietly thought about the real reason he was nervous…
Yesterday Lee had spent the entire day with his best mate Destiny, they watched some TV, played on his playstation in the morning, chatted and then they decided that the lads needed some shopping done for the flat. ‘Lee you’re supposed to push the trolley, not sit in it’ Destiny laughed at him. ‘Yes I know’ he said in a sarcastic but funny voice (Simon referred to this voice as his ‘Rodney Trotter’ impression), ‘I’m trying to get out, but, I’m…whoahhhhhhh shit’. ‘Lee are you alright honey?’ she said as he fell out the trolley in a heap on the floor with his legs and arms everywhere. Lee started laughing and Destiny knew he was alright. ‘You idiot, don’t scare me like that’ she said to him, Lee got up but suddenly stepped back as she looked at him in a way she had never looked at him before. They were both thinking the same thing, Lee moved closer and kissed her, when he pulled back they looked at each other, ‘um let’s get the rest of this shopping done’ she said quietly. Not knowing what to say to each other they carried on in silence.
After getting a few more bits they left the store and then took the shopping out to the car and Lee drove them both back to the flat that he shared with the boys.
(30 mins later, Lee and Duncan’s flat)
‘Lee, Dest have ya got any grub’ said a rather starved looking Duncan.
‘Duh yeah that’s why they just went food shopping Dunk’ said Simon. ‘Yes
I know but oh never mind just let me at the food I’m hungry’. He started
hunting for food and soon found something he fancied and went off into the
lounge with it. Destiny just stood there looking lost, ‘you okay love?’
asked Ant kinda worried at the fact she looked like that. ‘Uh yeah um I gotta
go, left the err gas on, see ya guys’, and with that she walked out the door
without another word. As Duncan had said her name she felt something snap
inside, she’d never felt it before and after the kiss with Lee, she had to get
out of there fast.
Chapter Two
The boys all looked at each other, when finally Sy said ‘uh Lee is everything okay with you and Destiny?’ Lee knew he couldn’t lie but still said ‘yeah everything’s cool mate, just nerves about the concerts and stuff’.
Duncan could sense something was wrong but couldn’t figure it out, he decided to go round Destiny’s place to see if she was okay. He had to talk to Destiny anyway and now seemed a good time as any he thought. ‘Guys I’m going out for awhile, I might not be back til tomorrow’ he said as he grabbed his coat and headed towards the door. ‘Okie dokie Dunk, but remember our rehearsal at 9 am okay?’ Ant called after him. ‘Right lads, what we gonna do for the rest of the day then?’ he said to Sy and Lee. ‘Well how about a game of footie in the park…might even see some fit girls eh Lee?’ he poked Lee as he said it. ‘Um I dunno I’m kinda tired with all this tour stuff I might head off to bed before tomorrow’ he said sleepily. Sy looked at Ant, ‘well Sy looks like it’s just you and me, more girls for us then wahey’, they both laughed and left Lee in the flat alone.
Lee went to his room, and saw a pic of him and Destiny, ‘man you shoulda told her back then’, he said to himself, he could feel his eyes welling up with tears and as he looked more he just fell on the bed crying. He had fallen in love with her, but couldn’t bring himself to tell her.
Meanwhile, Duncan had followed Destiny back to her house, waited 10 minutes then went up and rang the bell. *DING DONGGGG* ‘Who the hell is that’ Destiny thought, she got up to look out the window and saw Duncan’s car parked outside. ‘Oh man what does he want’. ‘Hey Duncan’ she said softly as she opened the door and let him in. She started to think to herself how gorgeous he looked in those tight denim trousers and that shirt with only a few buttons done up. Duncan was thinking the same about her, how sexy she looked in the trousers and denim jacket with a few buttons done up and only a bra underneath, he knew, and wanted, something to happen.
Chapter Three
(30th November 2002)
As the door closed behind Duncan, Destiny offered him a cuppa. ‘Uh yeah sure why not, two sugars not much milk please hun’ he said, ‘god how gorgeous is his voice’ she said to herself as she went out to the kitchen, knowing she had to get away from him before something happened. Duncan followed her silently, waited til her back was turned, then went up behind her and slowly put his arms round her waist, then said ‘hey’ quietly and kissed her on the back of her neck…she turned round looked him in the eyes and said ‘Duncan we…I’ but before she could finish what she was going to say she felt herself kissing him back, and she took one of his hands and led him into her bedroom, as she shut the door he started undoing her jacket and she started to undo his shirt and trousers…
Several hours later Destiny was woken up by her mobile ringing. ‘Hello?’ she said, still half asleep. ‘Hiya love it’s Shane, how are ya?’ It was her best mate, who’d she’d known only a few months but it felt like years. He was closer to her than Lee, Duncan, Antony or Simon. ‘Oh am I glad to hear from you, I’m feeling really bad, listen I need to see you, where are you?’ Shane arranged to meet her at the Hilton Hotel in London 6 o’clock that night.
Just as she put the phone down, Duncan woke up. ‘Who was that love?’ he said looking at her. ‘Just Shane, he wants to talk to me, I’m going to the Hilton Hotel at 6 to meet him’. He kissed her and said, ‘but that’s hours away baby’. She thought to herself should she stay, but then she remembered the kiss with Lee and knew she had to go. He went to pull her onto him but she suddenly stopped him and said, ‘Duncan, honey, this is wrong okay, I’m sorry but I have to go…now’, the look in his eyes was really awful, he couldn’t believe her when she stopped him like that. ‘But, wait a sec Destiny, don’t I mean anything to you?’ ‘Course you do but as a friend, we both know it wouldn’t work out seeing each other, look I think you should know I’m in love with someone…’ she was going to say Lee, but when she saw the tears in Duncan’s eyes she knew she had to finish it there and go. ‘I’m sorry Duncan but I can’t stay’. It seemed so sudden to him, he wondered if that’s why she was going to see Shane, was she back with him?
After having a shower and getting dressed, she went back to her room to find Duncan had gone, but there was a note left in his place;
‘Destiny, I know you felt something back then, so I want you to know whoever you’re in love with, I can love you more and I really do think we would be good together. Call me okay, love Duncan xxx’
‘How sweet is that guy’ she thought to herself as she folded up the note, got her phone, put it in her bag and then headed off to get the tube to the Hilton.
Chapter Four
(The Hilton hotel – 6 pm)
Shane was in the reception area waiting for Destiny, he knew something was wrong but obviously she didn’t want to talk about it so he thought it would be best if they met up and talked about it. ‘Man this is one time I wish I wasn’t famous’ he thought to himself. (The two had met at a signing of the band he’s in, and they soon started seeing each other, but became good friends rather than girlfriend/boyfriend, they told each other everything). Just as he was thinking about all that she walked through the door. He smiled at her and she smiled back at him, ‘hey Shaney how’s it going’, she felt safe at last, ‘hey love it’s ok but lets get up to my room before we get spotted’. They both went up to his room in the hotel and as soon as he shut the door she broke down in tears, and told him everything that had happened, with Lee and Duncan. ‘What are you gonna do?’ he said. ‘I don’t know, I can’t go out with Duncan, he was right, I did feel something but it wouldn’t be right, we wouldn’t be with each other for the right reasons, but I’m in love with Lee and I can’t tell him incase he doesn’t feel the same way’. She showed him the note he’d left her, Shane got up and said ‘you have to sort this, or else all three of you are going to get hurt’.
After going through all the reasons why Lee had looked at her funnily earlier in the supermarket, Shane suddenly went ‘why don’t you phone Lee, and see if you can talk to him alone, didn’t you say the lads were going out?’ ‘Yeah but Lee was going with them’. ‘Well you won’t know if you don’t try’, he gave her that look that meant he’d phone him if she didn’t. ‘Alright alright I’ll call him, now go cos you know I can’t use the phone if people are watching me’, Shane got up and said he’d be back in 15 minutes.
‘Answer the phone Lee, don’t answer the ph…oh…hi, Lee is that you are you okay?’ Destiny was praying he wouldn’t answer the phone but he did and said really quietly, ‘yeah it’s me, what’s up?’ She could tell he’d been crying cos he sounded all upset and tired, ‘Lee are you at the flat on your own?’ ‘Yeah why’, ‘don’t go anywhere I’ll be there in half an hour’ he said okay but he didn’t wanna trouble her. Shane came back ‘well what happened?’ she looked at him worriedly ‘he sounded like he’d been crying Shane, I wonder what’s up with him, I’m going round the flat now, he’s on his own, god knows where Duncan went to and to be honest I don’t care right now’. ‘K well be careful and talk to Lee, and tell him how you feel’. She got up, gave Shane a kiss and a hug and then went. ‘She should know Lee loves her, he always has done, if it’s obvious to me then I’m sure it is to her’ Shane said to himself as he watched her go.
Chapter Five
(Lee’s flat – 10 pm)
She got up to the flat door, and fumbled around for the key just as Lee opened the door. ‘Cheers Lee’ she said smiling at him, ‘you okay’ he said to her. ‘Um not really, that’s why I came back, I think we need to talk…alone’ she added on the end. Lee looked at her, and said ‘yes we do, but first I need to give you something. I’m not very good with stuff like this but here goes’ and with that he put both hands on her face, and kissed her softly. ‘I’ve wanted to do that for a long t…’ he was just going to finish the sentence when she put her finger on his lips, looked him in his deep green eyes and said ‘me too’, she then kissed him back and they somehow ended up in Lee’s room…
(Later that night)
‘I wonder where the lads have got to’ Lee wondered, looking at the girl lying next to him fast asleep. He kissed her on her forehead and got up to get something to drink. When he got back she’d woken up, ‘ah honey there you are I thought you’d left me’ she said as he got back in bed and snuggled up to her. ‘Just went and got a drink’ he smiled back at her. ‘Aren’t the boys back yet’ she said, ‘nope, dunno where they’ve got too, but I don’t fancy them catching us two right now, do you?’ he said with a worried voice. ‘Not really, we hadn’t better be here when they get back, even though I can’t leave you, when are we gonna tell them about us’ she thought about Duncan, and what he was gonna say. ‘Well maybe after the concert, would that be okay?’ Lee answered thoughtfully. ‘Yeah good plan, now I had better get on the sofa or something cos they could be back any minute’, she gave him once last kiss then got up and grabbed some blankets and made a little bed on the sofa.
She was just falling asleep when Lee came in and gave her a kiss, ‘I missed you and you’d only been gone five mins’ he said with a laugh. ‘Ah, go to sleep honey’ she said back to him. He waited til she was asleep then went to bed himself.
Chapter Six
(1st December 2002 – Day of rehearsal)
‘Wakey wakey love, it’s brekkie time’ Ant was trying to wake up Destiny. ‘Mmmph’ she came the reply from under the blankets ‘mmmph’. ‘Unfortunately Ant failed his GCSE in that language’ laughed Simon. ‘Very funny guys’ she said as she surfaced from under the covers. ‘Right I’m up what’s going on’ she said. ‘Well, we want some breakfast but we thought we’d wait for you’ said Duncan looking right at her with his sexy blue eyes and that smile that just killed her inside, she wanted him and he knew it. ‘Okay guys well give me 10 mins and I’ll get dressed and then we can eat, think you can hold out that long?’ Duncan replied ‘oh we can hold out much longer that than love’. ‘Yeah I’m sure you can, look I’ll get some breakfast later, you boys eat now’ she said then walked off to her room ‘Jesus this is gonna be hard’ she thought suddenly running into Lee. ‘Morning sexy’ he whispered to her and kissed her. ‘Oi careful we might get spotted or something, wait til later’ she answered as Lee pushed her into the bathroom. ‘Well they won’t see us now will they?’ Lee said as he locked the door behind him and pulled her in towards him.
(8.50 am)
‘Guys we have to be at Wembley in 10 mins, where’s Lee’, ‘I don’t know, he was in the loo I thought’, ‘what this long? Did ya try outside, maybe he’s in the car already’. No one could find Lee, the guys had to leave in a car for the Arena for rehearsals. ‘Lee if you ain’t here in 5 mins we’re going without you’ shouted Antony at the bathroom door hoping he was still in there, ‘god okay, wait I’ll be out in a minute me zips stuck’ he shouted back.
His zip hadn’t got stuck, infact him and Destiny were still in the bathroom. The other three thought she had gone back to her room. So they didn’t suspect a thing. ‘I have to go to this rehearsal or else I’m dead’ he whispered incase someone heard them talking. ‘Ah don’t leave me, can’t I come with you, keep you occupied between songs’ she giggled back causing him to kiss her again. ‘I wish you could, but I really gotta go’ he got up and unlocked the door and made sure the coast was clear so she could run back to his room, two seconds after she shut Lee’s door Ant appeared looking for Lee, ‘ah there you are Lee, come on or else we’ll get shot for being late, anyone would think you got a girl in there’ he said jokingly. ‘Hahaha yeah mate’ Lee really wanted to tell him about him and Destiny but knew he couldn’t, not until tonight anyway.
Chapter Seven
(1st December 2002, afternoon – Sound check for the opening night of the boy’s first night at Wembley Arena, London)
‘Ant I need to tell you guys something after the rehearsals, meet me back at the flat at 9 yeah?’ Lee found Ant and was making sure that he’d tell the other two boys before the next song. After this they’d be free for the rest of the night, and Ant was hoping they could go out celebrating. ‘But we wanted to go clubbing tonight Lee, can’t it wait’, ‘no it can’t, just be there, please, for me’.
‘Girl I been missin’ you, I never thought I’d feel this way, all the feelings I have inside grow stronger everyday’ the words were coming out of Lee’s mouth but he couldn’t concentrate on anything but getting back to Destiny. He’d managed to phone her at lunch break to make sure she was okay, she’d sounded so lonely that he wanted to leave there and then but knew he couldn’t incase the manager thought he was ill and went back with him. Eventually the time came for the sound check to finish.
(4 pm)
‘Yay that’s it boys, well done, good luck for Tuesday and we’ll see how Wembley takes the boys from Blue’ their choreographer was more excited about this than they were it seemed.
Lee ran off the stage as soon as they’d finished, leaving Antony, Simon and Duncan standing there chatting. ‘Lads, lads come here a sec’ Ant called to Simon and Dunk. ‘What’s up’ they said. ‘Lee wants us to meet him at the flat at 9 pm, he didn’t say why but it’s important so I said I’d tell you now before we head out’. ‘Ah but I wanna go clubbing’ Simon said looking fed up at the thought of being stuck in the flat. ‘Yeah we all do Sy but if Lee wants to tell us something then we gotta go, maybe we can go out after, I’m sure it won’t take long, you know what Lee’s like with saying stuff he’ll be about 5 minutes’ he laughed. Duncan thought about going to see Destiny again tonight to try and sort it out but he knew he wouldn’t be able to later, so he decided to get in his car, go and get changed then head over to her place…he snuck out the back way cause he knew he’d get stuck at the front gates for ages with all the fans.
(4.30 pm)
Duncan went up to the door of his flat, and let himself in; he found Destiny sat watching a Westlife documentary on TV. ‘Hi what ya doing here’ he said to her, ‘oh, hi Duncan, um how was sound check?’ she tried not to look in his eyes cos she knew it was trouble. ‘It was alright, Lee wants to meet us all here at 9pm tonight so I thought I’d come back early then go over and see you, but seeing as you’re here I think we should talk about what’s going on between us now before anyone else gets here’. He turned the TV off and sat down next to her on the sofa. ‘Hey I was watching that’ Destiny angrily said to him. ‘Yeah and it’ll be on again…look we need to talk love, you got my note I take it?’ She didn’t need this; she just wanted Lee back home, and fast. Being this close to Duncan was dangerous. ‘Yeah I got it, so what, I told you we can’t see each other’. She still couldn’t bring herself to look at him. He got up and sat on the floor in front of her, she didn’t have anywhere else to look but right into his deep blue eyes. ‘Dest, look maybe you’re right we can’t go out as a couple, but what’s the harm in just you know sleeping with each other?’ ‘Duncan are you crazy, that is so, so wrong, what if both of us got caught or something’. He could see she wasn’t going to back down with the talking, so he said ‘look, get up a sec and come with me’. She got up reluctantly and she followed him into his room. ‘Hold on, Duncan, wait what the hell are you doing’, he locked the door behind her, led her towards the bed, and she let herself be pushed onto it by Duncan. He looked her in the eyes, and said ‘I’m doing what we both want, if you think this is wrong, then you can get up now and leave’ he added with a whisper ‘but I know you’ll stay with me’. She knew it was wrong, she thought about Lee and thought how hurt he’d be if she knew she did this, especially with one of his best mates. But the way Duncan had her there she couldn’t help but give into him.
(6 pm)
Lee got a taxi back to his flat as soon as he’d signed autographs for the fans outside and answered countless number of questions from the press. As he slammed the door of the taxi he could see that the lights were out in the flat. ‘I wonder if she’s awake’ he thought’ as he got the front door opened. ‘Destiny are you here?’ he shouted. He saw the TV was off and realised she’d probably gone back to sleep. ‘Shit, Duncan wake up’ she whispered, ‘Lee’s back you have to go’. ‘What huh oh god how did he know you were here, god how am I gonna get out of here’ he asked realising he was in deep trouble if Lee found them. ‘Hide under the bed, I’ll take Lee out then you leg it into the bathroom, say you’ve had a shower’. He kissed her one last time and then shot under the bed just as Lee opened Duncan’s bedroom door. She pretended she was asleep. ‘Dest, you awake’ he headed towards the bed, Duncan couldn’t breathe incase Lee heard him. ‘Mmm yeah I am now, I was so tired I couldn’t even make it to your room’ she sat up and pulled him towards her, ‘give us a kiss’ to which he whispered ‘I’ll give you much more than that’, she pulled him down on her then he said ‘wait, let’s go snuggle up and watch some TV’. She kissed him and followed him out, wondering what on earth Duncan would think.
Chapter Eight
(9 pm)
Now Antony, Simon and Duncan were in the kitchen talking about football. Duncan was trying to act normal but wondered how he had escaped in time, and, more importantly he wanted to ask Destiny what she was playing at with Lee. Lee soon appeared with her following closely behind him holding one of his hands behind his back, she sat up on the table and Lee turned one of the kitchen chairs round and sat on that. The others stopped talking, pulled up chairs themselves and Sy said ‘well mate you got us all here what’s going on?’. ‘Yeah come on Lee I wanna go out drinking’ Ant followed with. ‘Alright guys, I’ll say it as quick as I can’ he looked at Destiny, she smiled back at him then as soon as he faced back to the boys she looked at Duncan and mouthed ‘it’s over Duncan’. Lee started to speak, ‘I dunno if you’ve noticed me being over hyperactive today or looking totally lost but I’ve got something to tell you…me and Destiny are seeing each other, well have been since yesterday afternoon. So I kinda guessed I should tell you all before you caught us’. Ant was the first to speak after a silence (to Lee it seemed for ages), ‘well done guys, congrats’ he hugged both of them and then Sy did the same, but he noticed Dunk looked really awful all of a sudden, ‘Duncan are you okay?’ he asked. ‘Yeah I’m fine Sy, look well done guys, I’m happy for ya’ and with that he walked out, he was fighting back the tears and had to get of there.
Chapter Nine
After having a celebratory drink, Antony and Simon went out clubbing whilst Lee and Destiny were left alone at the flat. ‘I wonder what’s up with Duncan, he looked really ill’ he asked. She knew what was up with him, but couldn’t bear to see Lee hurt. ‘Don’t know honey, come on let’s carry on from earlier before you have to go leave me for a month on this tour of yours’. Lee’s eyes sparkled when she said that and he got up with a smile, took her face in his hands, ‘I love you’, ‘I love you too’, they kissed and she put her arms round him and pulled him in closer. His hands were all over her, he knew he’d found the girl he wanted to be with for the rest of his life and nothing would ever come between them (or so he thought).
Duncan meanwhile, had rushed outside and hidden in his car, which he had parked round the corner incase Ant or Simon spotted him on the way out. He was lying across the backseats crying his eyes out. ‘Why didn’t she tell me she was in love with Lee, this isn’t fair, now she thinks I just want her for sex when I love her more than him’ he knew what they were up to back in the flat, he couldn’t go back in and he certainly didn’t want to go clubbing with the other two. So he just stayed in his car all night and was woken up by Lee tapping on the car window the next morning.
‘Duncan you alright’ he asked. He could see he was curled up in the back of the car fast asleep. ‘I hope you ain’t spent all night out there mate’ he said as Duncan got out of the car. ‘Um yeah, well I didn’t wanna disturb you and Dest, and I couldn’t be bothered to catch up with Ant and Sy, I thought it’d be best if I stayed out here’. He could see Lee was really happy, but at the same time he wanted to tell him he’d slept with his girlfriend. ‘We were worried about ya, you wanna come in and get something to eat?’ Lee started walking back up to the flat. Duncan followed knowing he’d have to face Destiny sooner or later. ‘Later rather than sooner’ he said under his breath.
Chapter Ten
(2nd December 2002)
When the boys got back in, Destiny was on the phone to Shane, she saw Duncan and said something to Shane, then put the phone down. ‘Lee I’m going on your laptop for a bit, it’s in your room ain’t it?’ ‘Yeah honey’ he said, then he turned to Duncan, ‘don’t I just have the best girlfriend ever’. ‘Yeah you sure do’ he thought about saying something there and then, but realised he was gonna have to pick his moments before telling Lee. Also he needed to hold Destiny in his arms again, he was in love, and knew he had to have her no matter how much it hurt Lee. He sat down and got some food whilst having a good think about stuff, and Lee went into see Destiny, ‘you sure you’re okay love’ he said to her as he sat down on the floor near her. She could see that look in his eyes that drove her crazy, ‘the same kinda look Duncan gives me too’ she said in her mind. ‘I’m fine, just glad we told the boys about us really, aren’t you?’ ‘Yep, although Duncan didn’t seem right when I told him, you know what, he spent the night outside in his car, said he couldn’t come back in cos he didn’t wanna disturb us and didn’t wanna go with Ant or Simon’. ‘Strange that’ she said as she sat on the floor with Lee. She knew she loved Lee, but something told her to get as much as she could out of Duncan, she didn’t want anything serious from Duncan, and she thought that he didn’t want anything but sex. She didn’t know that she was about to fall in love with him.
*RING RINGGGGGGG* The phone in the flat was ringing, Duncan answered it, ‘hello’, ‘it’s Sy, listen me and Ant are down at the recording studio, they want Lee to come down too, they don’t want you though til tomorrow for some reason’, ‘oh okay, right well I’ll tell Lee to get down there ASAP lads, have fun!’ after putting the phone down, he couldn’t believe his luck, now he’d have practically all day with Destiny. ‘Lee where are ya’ he shouted. He’d just started falling asleep in her arms when he heard Duncan’s shouting. ‘Ah man whaddaya want’ he shouted back. ‘Ant and Sy are at the recording studios and they want you down there ASAP’, ‘what for, why don’t they want you there Duncan’, ‘dunno, Sy said they want me tomorrow’. ‘Ah god’ he thought, ‘just as we get settled for the day I have to leave her’. She was asleep and didn’t hear or see Lee go, or Duncan come in and lock the door behind him…
Chapter Eleven
She thought she heard the door click, then knew it had cos she felt someone get in the bed and put his arms around her from behind, thinking it was Lee, she held onto the hands that met hers round her stomach. Then, Duncan said ‘it’s me, not Lee don’t be scared’. She tried to push his hands away but knew he was too strong for her. ‘Christ sake Duncan what the hell are you doing here, if Lee catches you you’re dead’, she couldn’t
believe the risk he’d taken. ‘Shhh, listen he’s gone to the recording studio with Ant and Sy, it’s just you and me til tonight’, she turned over to face him, he leant in to kiss her but she stopped him, ‘wait, Duncan I need to know something before we do this again’, ‘yeah go ahead’ he didn’t like the tone of her voice. ‘This is only sex right? Cos if it’s more then you have to tell me right now, it’s bad enough I’m hurting Lee as it is’. Duncan knew he had to tell her the truth and fast. He sat up and so did she, ‘well, what’s it going to be?’ she said. ‘Dest, listen to me’, ‘I don’t like the sound of this Dunk’, ‘let me finish will you’, ‘okay okay I’m sorry carry on’. He had to say this right or else it would ruin everything. ‘I lied to you the other day, I don’t want us to just sleep together, I don’t know how to say this but all I can think of is I love you and to be honest with ya I don’t care about Lee, I care about you and I want you more than he ever will, he’s only a kid and he doesn’t understand what’s going on with his…’ before he even finished she had started crying, ‘Duncan why didn’t you tell me this before Lee made a move on me, why put me through all this, now I have to choose and you know I can’t do that’, ‘wait a sec, you mean if I’d told you, you wouldn’t have gone with Lee?’, ‘of course I wouldn’t, I mean I might have slept with him but I would’ve told him it was nothing more’.
She got up and ran out of Lee’s room, straight into Duncan’s room. Of course Duncan, after realising that she just admitted she loved him and not Lee, ran in after her. ‘Destiny look at me, look at me now’ his voice sounded angry. She looked up at him, ‘what do you want me to say Duncan, just tell me and I’ll say it for you’, she was still crying and couldn’t stop. ‘I want you to tell me you don’t love me’, ‘what?’ She stared at him for a minute and then said ‘what do you mean you want me to say I don’t love you?’ she was puzzled. ‘I can’t do that’, now he was the one staring, ‘what do you mean you can’t do it, you just say you don’t love me’. She could see he was starting to cry, knowing she had to think quick she started saying, ‘Duncan, I…I’ but instead she kissed him for what seemed like ages then said ‘I love you Duncan’.
(3rd December 2002 – morning)
Duncan and Destiny were fast asleep, snuggled up in his room when Lee came in and saw them. ‘Oh my god, what the hell is going on’, Duncan woke up, ‘Lee wait let me explain’, ‘no Duncan it don’t need explaining, I can see quite clearly what’s going on thanks very much’. He took one look at Destiny fast asleep, and went back to his room. He knew it was over before that, when he held her he sensed something was wrong, he didn’t feel the same way as he had done before with her, he just couldn’t tell her incase she got hurt, ‘that’s the last thing I want’ he had said to himself at the time. Seeing her with Duncan had hurt but soon realised that it was right, he couldn’t see himself with her forever, it was good while it lasted but he knew she’d be better with Duncan.
Destiny came into Lee’s room, ‘Lee honey I’m sorry, I knew I should’ve told you about me and Duncan, I’m really really sorry’, he got up gave her a hug and said ‘I’m sorry to, I should’ve told you aswell, I’ll still love you but we’ve had our fun, I know Duncan will look after you’, he gave her one last kiss and a hug, then he went to see Duncan.
‘Listen mate, I’m sorry for bursting in on you two this morning, just kinda threw me when I saw you and my girl together, I was hoping to have broke up with her differently, but I’m glad it’s you she’s with now’, Duncan had first thought Lee was going to hit him or something, but after he said that he couldn’t be happier. ‘I’m glad you’re okay with it mate, if you’d have hated me I don’t know what I’d have done without you as a friend’. They both gave each other a hug and Lee said ‘I um did give her one last kiss just now, just as a goodbye thing’ he thought he had better tell Duncan, ‘ah it’s okay mate don’t worry about it, I know you care about her’.
Destiny was still in Duncan’s room when she saw them both come in, Lee said to her, ‘hiya love, it’s okay, we’re all sorted, everyone’s mates, we just gotta tell Ant and Sy now’, Duncan, Destiny and Lee had a good chat and when Antony and Simon came back around lunchtime they found all three of them fast asleep on Duncan’s bed.
‘Well, well, well I wonder what’s been going on there Sy’ Antony laughed, ‘I’m sure we’ll find out when they wake up’ he laughed back. Destiny woke up first and left Lee and Duncan, went to find Antony and Simon, ‘guys before you say anything, it was NOT a threesome alright, it’s a long story and I think you’ve got just about enough time before the show tonight to hear it’, and with that they sat down on the sofa and she told them the whole thing…
(10.30 pm – Wembley Arena)
‘Right everyone, listen up, this last song we’d like to dedicate to Duncan’s girlfriend who’s out in the crowd tonight…somewhere’ he added on the end, Lee could barely hear himself speak over the crowd screaming. The opening tune to ‘If You Come Back’ started up and instead of Simon singing, Duncan sang the whole song, looking only at Destiny, started singing ‘for all this time, I’ve been loving you girl, oh yes I have…’
