About Rett Syndrome
The child with RS usually shows an early period of apparently normal
or near normal development until 6-18 months of life. A period of temporary
stagnation or regression follows during which the child loses communication
skills and purposeful use of the hands. Soon, stereotyped hand movements,
gait disturbances, and slowing of the rate of head growth become apparent.
Rett syndrome results in a regression that leads to severe lifelong disabilities,
including loss of speech, hand use, and mobility.

We Need You
In 1999, the mutation in the gene that causes Rett syndrome was discovered.
Since then, researchers from around the world have come on board to search
for treatments and, ultimately, a cure. We need your help to continue
their research, raise awareness, and support families of children with
Rett syndrome.
You don't have to be a runner to be involved. The San Diego Run for Rett
is for everyone! You can walk the 8k, wheel the 8k, run the 8k, or walk
the 1 mile fun walk. You can offer your help by volunteering, sponsoring
your company's services, or by making a monetary donation. Every little
bit helps and every offer of help is welcome!
You can help us raise money! Print the pledge form and registration and
ask your friends, families, and co-workers to get involved. They can pledge
a set amount or a dollar amount for each kilometer/mile. Then send your
completed pledge form along with with your
completed registration. If you raise $100 or more, your registration fee
is waived. See you at the Run!
