Dash/Cowl Rattle

This topic is so large it gets it's own page.  Go to The Rattle!! for details

Other Rattles

Several other interior rattles have been identified including in the front door/windshield pillar, in the pillar between the front and rear doors.  These are addressed by a Toyota TSB which is available on RAV4World.com HERE

Harsh Ride - Tire Pressure

Some owners have complained about an overly harsh ride with their new RAV4.  This has generally been due to the tire pressure being set too high.  When Toyota ships from the factory they set the pressure at 50+ PSI.  The dealer is supposed to adjust the pressure to 20-32 PSI as recommended - although some have neglected to do this.

Wind Noise, Roof Rack Noise

There have been two problems reported related to the roof rack.  One is a rattle coming from the roof area which is normally due to the adjustment screws on the roof rack rails being loose and allowing the rails to rattle.  The second is excessive wind noise from the roof which is normally caused by the rails being installed backwards.  There is an arrow on the top of each rail that should be pointing forward when the rail is installed correctly.

Transmission Shifting Issues

A number of owners have noticed that the automatic transmission does not shift into overdrive (OD) when the transmission is cold.  This is normal behavior and is noted in the owners manual.  Once the transmission warms up (generally 1-2 miles) the transmission will shift normally.

The Stereo Sounds Bad

Many owners don't like the sound from the factory stereo.  There are several causes for this including the bass heavy nature of the head unit and the poor quality of the factory speakers.  See the Stereo page for more details about what can be done to solve these issues.
