Ric Flair, The Middle Year: From 1986-1990

1986

Four Horsemen created. Original members: Tully Blanchard; Arn and Ole Anderson; and Flair himself. They were managed by JJ Dillon.

July 26: Loses NWA World title to Dusty Rhodes at The Great American Bash in Greensboro, NC.

Auguest 9: Regains the title from Rhodes in St. Louis, Mo.

1987

September 25: He is defeated by Ronnie Garvin in Detroit, MI.

November 26 (Thanksgiving Day): Defeats Roonie Garvin at Starrcade '87 in Chicago.

1988

-Ole Leaves the group, and is replaced by Luger.

-Herritage Champion Barry Whindham has a series of matches with Ric.

-Luger is dropped from the roster. Luger and Whindham team up to face Blanchard and Anderson, the NWA tag champions. They win the titles, then a month later, Barry turns on Luger during the rematch, and joins the Horsemen.

1989

January: Dillion signs Flair and Barry Windham to wrestle Eddie Gilbert and a mystery partner. The mystery partner was Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat gained a pin over Flair in that match, promting the championship committee to grant Steamboat a title shot. Flair promptly fires Dillion. Horsemen split for the first time.

February 20: Steamboat defeats Flair at WrestleWar '89 in Chicago.

April 2: In their 54-minute, 2-out-of-3 falls re-match at the Clash of Champions in New Orleans, LA, Steamboat won the 3rd and deciding fall. However, Flair;s foot was on the ropes.

May 7: To settle the controversy, another re-match was signed in Nashvile. (Article) This time, three judges were appointed to see that there was a winner. Flair pinned Steamboat, regaining the NWA World title. After the contest, former NWA World champion Terry Funk asked Flair for a title match. He said that the title committee would have to give the word. With that, Funk attacked Flair and piledrove him through the judges table and began a bloody feud.(Article)

June: Due to the neck injury from Funk, Flair was out of action for a month. The 30-day title defense rule was waved.

July 1: Announced he would face Funk at The Great American Bash on July 23 in Baltimore.

July 23: Defeats Funk in Baltimore at the Bash.

August: Arn Anderson rejoins Flair's side.

October: Sting and Flair team up against The Great Muta and Funk in a Thunderdome cage match at Halloween Havoc '89. Ole Anderson seconded Flair and Sting. They won the match, adn soon, Sting was asked to become a Horsemen. The Horsemen came together again.

December: Sting wins the Ironman round-robin tournament at Starrcade '89 by defeating Flair in the finals. The executive committee gives Sting a NWA World title shot at WrestleWar '90.

December: Flair recieves PWI's Wrestler of the Year Award

1990

February 6: At the Clash of Champions, Sting is asked by the Horsemen to forfeit his title shot. He refuses. The Horsemen attack Sting's knee causing him to forfeit his shot.

February 20: Luger defeats Flair by DQ at WrestleWar '90.

-Pillman starts to face Flair in revenge of Sting

July 7: Sting returns to face Flair at the Great American Bash in Baltimore. Sting wins the NWA World title.

August: Black Scorpion appears and harasses Sting.

December 16: At Starrcade '90, Sting defeated the Black Scorpion, who is revealed to be Ric Flair.
