About Togian Island:

For those who are interested in true exploration diving and snorkeling and prepared to endure a tough journey to find it, the Togians are a must.  These islands located in Tomini Bay in central sualwesi are well worth the journey.

Tomini Bay, reputedly the calmest bay in the world, is almost completely surrounded by spidery arms of Sulawesi, which means relatively flat seas almost year-round and spectacular cyan-blue visibility.  The islands are renowned for displaying all major reef formations (fringing, barrier, and atoll) and the corals here, safe from the threat of heavy wave damage, grow into beautifully delicate underwater forests.

Large schools of barracuda, big-eyed jack fish and other pelagics are common around the outer reefs of Taupun, Taipi and the southeast of Batudaka and Togian.  Hawksbill turtles and even Dugongs are spotted among the many islands.

The dropoff  here is quite topographically complex and offers numerous small caves and crevices teeming with cryptic fish and crustaceans.

The Togian islands themselves are stunning.  Scores of densely-forested rocky islands rise out of the placid water to create endless idyllic bays.  Dolphins are quite common.  Reefs fringing the islands are poorly developed, but interesting for their abundance of gorgonians and soft corals.

How to get there?

- By plane from Manado to Gorontalo, 3 times a week (one hour flight), then stay overnigth in Gorontalo.
