The start on day 1. Everybody is warming up, then we cross the highway and go thru the fence and start.
The other side of the highway. It's now just about 7 a.m., time to start. Looks like a beautiful summer day!
Looking back at Shellborne Station.....basecamp is in the back. |
The first part of the trail today goes along in the foothills. Rocky seems to handle stopping well at the start and we begin at a nice steady pace :+}. We're letting all the fast people get ahead. They went really fast this day (for us).
Looking back down the trail. Riders catching up to us.
Now we're heading West and up into the mountains. The scenery really changes once we begin to gain elevation.
This horse has purple dots on its butt. Most of us worse purple on the first day in honor of Trilby. |
It's getting less flat. yeay.
Here is Clark from Utah. His horse can *really* trot, oh boy!
I think this is Louise. Unless I have her name wrong, which could happen. On one day she asked Maureen for 2 advil and Maureen accidentally gave her 2 Excedrin PM and didn't notice in time. So one day Louise slept thru most of the ride. She looks pretty awake here. |
Heading up.
It's starting to get greener.
Clark on the right, and Maureen on the left. |
It's really pretty up here, getting more greener and we know we're getting close to water. It's a long climb, so we are alternating walking and trotting.
Some rock formations on the left.
