Blond God On Tour

Yeah.... Love's like bleeding..

My friend, who's gonna join the same show, she showed up with the FIRST ticket for the concert of the year..

How about that?

Needless to add any other than this unique copy. Keep mine safe in the pocket hahaha!

Okay friends, here you have some short impressions of the tour of our God. I know, we're not the temple, and everywhere at the net these reports are written, but hey, why keep me away from my two moments of pleasure?

Listening to the Christmas Concert of the CROSS 1990, I start to collect some of the impressions that came my way. Needless to say that most ladies are, ernnn.. showing their emotions around the bearded God... Ah well, *SHAKE* one can go for his music as well, can't he? Enjoy, and FUN IT!

Roger in Manchester 20 March 99

Our youngsters waited outside and met all Treana and the band and got all the autographs (except Roger).

I think the largest venue played so far - I would estimate approx 400 audience (but I may be quite wrong) - standing on the flat. I am told that the view and the sound were great from the back near the desk. Security treated us as humans - thanks guys. Projected Electric Fire on a backdrop - and on one bass drum skin. Struck me they were the "Men In Black" - all dressed in black, especially well on in the show when just white flashing lights were used.

Cranking show - Roger was wearing his usual black "brocade" jacket, black (done up!) jeans, with studded belt. Later he came back on for I'm In Love with My Car with a black waistcoat over a white shirt with rolled up sleeves. Looking good, yeah! - just the merest hint of a beard, hair, shortish, blond and sticking up spikey - wore his little round dark glasses throughout.

Loved his version of We Will Rock You - I think better than any other version.
Started on drums - and came down the front to sing - occasionally visiting his drum kit during the set. Lost the words a little early on in Believe in Yourself - but audience sang along. Treana joined him for Surrender (obviously/excellent). Great rendition - one of the best in the show.

At one point Roger got his foot caught in his central mike stand and it pitched over at a dangerous angle, but gladly didn't fall - and at another point he threw his tambourine to the foot of the drum riser - and it rolled back to him instead of staying put.

Drum duet just before Under Pressure - showed a good rapport between the two drummers - shame it wasn't longer.
Treana did a wonderful job taking up the 2nd vocals for Under Pressure, and also to complete the line up with London Town., which he introduced as being up in Manchester an odd thing to be saying to come on down to London Town.

Roger introduced Love With My Car - and

wasn't sure of the year

- but the audience were quick to respond, and they also filled him in about the year when he was introducing Tenement Funster - which for me was the highlight - from where I was at the front - some 6 feet away from Roger (on the left in front of Jason) just everybody was singing along with the whole song, and supplying the "Perfectly crazy" twice - this singalong seemed to amuse Roger greatly! (May be this is his own personal "Love of My Life") - and he knew how to milk it.

There was an ominous crackling from the speakers during the first few bars of Strange Frontier, a couple of times - probably a loose cable, but gladly it settled down, as this was the last song of the set proper, this time the audience seemed to be providing the backing vocals - "ah ah ah ah ha's" etc. It seemed quite a long version (I think we got a verse twice "mentally slow" certainly came twice - but that's probably how it goes - I'll have to go back to the record to be sure if it should have been repeated) - hey but that's my favourite line.

The band went off and emerged for the final encore - Happiness - and then all too soon Radio Ga Ga - done in ritual fashion - hand clapping, armwaving style. Treana and her guitarist joined in on the stage for this one too.

Roger asked early on (probably before Magic) on whether anyone in the audience had been at

Maine Road in '85?

, I think he said (too late at night to look it up, sorry!) - last time Queen had played Manchester - I think he said - and there was a small show of hands, which he was counting (one, two, three) and he said something about most of you probably weren't even born then.

As the show wore on he loosened up and began to enjoy himself - and rocked. His band played a good tight set - Matt providing some good vocals, and Jason's lead was superb, lots of slide. Great keyboard work, and of course same goes for drums, and rhythm.

As a comparison - a friend with us said it was a better show than Gloucester. It is noticeable how very very different are the shows of Messrs Taylor and May.

Well that will do for tonight.

The Roger gig was excellent but the bad news is that i didn't get to meet him afterwards. We heard that he had been rushed away straight after but we thought he couldn't have been because we were meeting him. We got to the stage door and we asked to see Martin Groves and that i had won the virgin radio comp. She looked at us a bit puzzled and went to get Martin. He came out and said that they had to get Roger out as quick as they could so that he wouldn't get mobbed later on. I nearly cried. He asked if i was going to any more gigs so i told him i was going to London so he said he'd sort something out for me and Sue to meet Roger there.

Janine asked if he could write it down so that it would be definately confirmed that we will meet him afterwards. He gave me a staff pass and said to ask for him before the gig and it would be sorted. The pass had the date on for the Manchester gig so i don't know if it will come off or not. I am completely gutted, angry and depressed. There was no apology from Roger and he must have known he would have been meeting the winners after. If they can't have time to meet their fans the competition shouldn't have been done. I love Roger to bits but i'm upset that this happened. Anyway, i hope you get to meet him at Liverpool and i'll let you know if the photos turn out. See you at London.

----------------

Our kids did meet the rest of the band and Treana (went on her bus - where she was staying with her guitar player - the rest of the band were staying at a hotel - (Roger having been whisked off) - comment from the RMT Band was that "they don't mention Mr May".

Rachael Ltd were there as well... Very tired but first of all giving us her view. Right priorities!

Subject: the man himself in Manchester :-))))))))))

Oh crikey, where on earth do I start :-))

I've literally just got back from Manchester and I'm all sweaty and smelly after last night :-(( so I'm writing this BEFORE I have a bath, how nice am I??? ;-) ok for a start practical considerations WEAR VERY COMFY SHOES!!!

Bloody hell I STILL can't feel my feet, Treanna waits for about an hour after the doors open before she comes on so by the end of the night none of us could walk!! and another thing, get there really early, it really is worth being at the front, we got there about 5 mins beofre the doors were meant to open (they opened early for some reason!) and we were about 7 or 8 rows back, it was a fantastic view but it would have been so much better at the front :-))))
Merchandise, in case you want to know and you don't already, the programmes are a fiver (but they really aren't worth it I'm afraid, sorry roger but it had to be said) there's black tour t shirts (and i want one but i hadn't enough money *sniffle* for 14, a green cyberbarn/surrender (I think) t shirt for 8, and the making of the cyberbarn video for 10 :-))))
And for anyone not going to the gigs, I read in the programme that you can get merchandise from www.imvs.com there we go :-)) right onto the rogery stuff :-))))))

Bad bits, it has to be done I'm afraid :-((((
Kim you might want to sit down for this one, mr roger has grown the face fur back, he is no longer clean shaven *sob*still looks damn fine tho, but we'll get onto that later.
Another thign I think Debbie was there :-(
I can't be sure but it looked like her sat at the side of the stage, it might have been the light but she looked distinctly like she is still sucking that lemon!! (sorry but it's true, she did!) another bad thing was the strobe light at the end of no more fun, they made me feel sick, I had to shut my eyes, I hate strobe lights and they went on for flaming ages!!
They also left far too long between going off then coming back on for an encore :-( last moan, it's FAR TOO SHORT, only an hour and a half, quite pathetic really! :-) right good stuff now :-)

well for a start Treanna Morris is amazing she has a fantastic voice, her songs do sound a little samey but I didn't really notice I was so impressed :-)
You probably all know by now that she does sleeping on the sidewalk and it's very funky :-) I've been singing it happily all day :-)

Then after a bit of tuning, a few microphone changes, so nervous tension, a few threats to the bloke behind me who hadn't heard of the notion of "personal space" the lights went like they do when someone fabby is coming stage and............

*scream*

nah, i kept composure (suprisingly!) but it was difficult, can I have a bit of an enthuse for a moment?!?! :-)
I've never seen roger in realy life before, I've only ever seen him in pictures and stuff and he looks gorgeous when he's 2D but he blew me away when he walked on stage, I caught myself thinking, "blimey this man is seriously sexy!" even with the beard!! (no roger noooo, beards are bad!) :-)
He was wearing black jeans (fly done up, I checked!!!) and a black shirt and a black jacquaredy (sort of) jacket (the lining of which was red, I tried to remember everything to tell you all!!!) :-) and he looked damn fine :-)
I really can't remember the set list but I know it was pretty much the same as Gloucester just moved about a bit :-) I'll just tell you everything I can remember, he started off with We Will Rock You (him and other bloke, erm, *checks programme* Keith Prior (top bloke) on drums, till the singing bit when roger went to the front gave all the women wobbly knees by coming closer to us!!!)

Erm, I have to describe the stage to you (sorry this is really bitty, but I have a terrible memory for this I usually just let it all wash over and remember nothing, but I really paid attention today specially for the RTML (and adele!!))

It was a really little stage with 2 drum kits (roger on the right) and the back 3 microphones on the right of the stage as you look at it, they were for roger (obviously) in the middle of the stage, bassman steve barancle (Treanna used his mike when she came on during the roger bit), and Matt Exelby (*dribble*)!

I was stood on the left of the stage in front of fabby guitarist Jason Falloon and almost offstage on the left was mike crossley on keyboards (I couldn't actually see him!)

Just in front of his drums roger had stuff like drinks and a tambourine and a towel (I think) and during Magic he wandered over there (about 3 steps away it was a TINY stage!) and managed to almost knock his mike stand over as it was it just bent over a lot so bloke from crew had to crawl on and stand it up again, before roger turned round and decapitated himself!! ;-)

No More Fun was fantastic, it was really really heavy and really really LOUD! I'm tellign you this because I decided druign that song that Roger simply has to do a world tour becuase it was sooooo good :-)
Rog introduced Treanna and they did surrender, I still prefer the roger part on the album, but on the whole this version was about a million times better than on the album (and I love it on the album) they used the lighting to highlight the differences between the roger bits and the "oyu can't hurt me" treanna bits, and it really worked :-)
After that poor old roger started to show his age a little (bless him!) he told us "now we're going back a bit furth... well we would being going back futher because that's quite recent isn't it, sorry, we keep moving things around every night" *shuffles his papers* then they did these are the days :-) erm erm erm,

Under Pressure

they did that, and it was soooooooo fab, really funky, roger and treanna shared the vocals and it was so cool (sorry I can't describe it better :-( I'm trying my best!) quite heavy I'd say,
Radio Ga Ga was seriously funky too much waving of arms :-)))) all evening roger kept telling how fab we were and how great we all are in manchester and at the beginning (after 10 minutes cheerign just about!) he told us he thougth it was going to be a great night but then again he thougth it always was when he came to machester.
When he introduced Matt Exelby loads of women went mental so roger commented that it must be all his wives here tonight! which reminds me he did tonight at some point and

I completely fell in love with him!!

erm arrgghhh, I simply can't think of anything else, if i do, I promise to tell you, I know it's the not the same as being there but it's the best I can do, I hope anybody has understood any of this cos I've just rambled happily, I'ma bit like Liz, it was f*cking top, fantastic and I'm deeply jealous of everyone who's got it to look forward to,
it was so fab and roger is gorgeous (dunno why it suprised me but it did!) :-)
oh yes and we need to get the bed tour going soon, mr roger has got all cuddly, very very sweet kind of cuddly tho :-)))))))

Rachael (off to have a bath and a lie down I think!!) :-))))

Roger reviews

I can't really add much to the Tunney's review (what a great piece!). But I can give a bit of extra information.

In Stoke, Roger mentioned that they were using the venues PA but the sound didn't suffer at all.
Stoke was the smallest venue, but had an upper level balcony so we were literally surrounded on all sides. I also realised later that Stoke was missing the strobe lights and bright audience lights that were used to such effect in Manchester and Sheffield.
In Manchester, we were in front of the sound board and the sound was superb, we also had the best view of all three concerts (perhaps the people in Manchest are just shorter!). Roger looked happier than in Stoke and certainly played up more to the audience. I wished I was up close to the stage when Roger fumbled and dropped a stick, but realised that the queueing would not have been worth it.
Sheffield was the strangest venue, there were two little elevated stages that allowed people better views and the stage roof was low enough to stop Roger throwing his tambourine into the air and catching it (I was waiting for him to try and hit the roof!).
Some more off the head thoughts.
Sheffield had the coolest loo's :)
Manchester had the worst security and the best bag check (Hi Louise!), security was still good, but they just a tad grumpy..
Does Treena always get the problematic Microphone?, at all three concerts as she started to sing with Roger there were feedback problems.
Does the Rhythm guitarist have more than T-Shirt?
PAul.

Cathy, she came over and wrote this:

Roger live at The Leadmill, Sheffield, Sunday 21st March 1999

Arrived at the Leadmill at 12.30pm, only one other person there.

Started queuing. Weather cold and showery, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Two more people came to join the person who was standing with us, and old acquaintances from October 1998's Shepherds Bush Gig were renewed. The band came early, or so it seemed, and then went again.

Treana arrived, smiled sweetly and greeted us, and then disappeared inside.
Roger came for the soundcheck at about 4.30pm, but the sneaky devil went in a small door around the back. A handful of fans were there to see him.
Me?

Well, if I'd been literally 5 seconds quicker running round that corner, I'd have managed to meet him.

Better luck at Wolverhampton! A few hours, a few sing-songs and a few rain showers later, and the queue was very slowly getting a little longer. Come 7.00pm, it was of a moderate size and we all stood and formed an 'orderly' queue, ready to make our way in. In we run, straight to the front, and root ourselves to the spot at centre stage. Treana was truly amazing. Her voice seems to have really improved since Shepherd's Bush, she is far more confident and relaxed, and I think she was genuinely warmed by our reaction to her. Then she was gone, the lights went down, and an air of anticipation was abound in the theatre. The pounding drum intro. to Rock You signified the start of a spectacular hour and half's entertainment. Roger looked stunning, as usual, in black, as usual! A word-perfect set, all apart from the "And I wish I wasn't here" line from Strange Frontier. We helped him with that one, at which point he smiled his appreciation. The band themselves were on top form, as was Mr Taylor, wowing us with his mere presence.

For me, the highlight was Under Pressure, with Treana hitting those high notes superbly. What a force to be reckoned with in the future!

Two encores, ending with a house-rocking Radio Ga Ga, and then all was over.

I was lucky enough to grab one of the set lists off the stage, and clutched it close to me as I made my way out and back to my car. What passers-by thought of me I've no idea, as I was walking through the dark streets of Sheffield, arms full of t-shirts and with my memories..

Thanks to Roger and everyone involved, for a night to remember. It brought memories of Shepherds Bush rushing back (not that they've gone away too far, yet!), and has really set me up for Wolverhampton next week.

Cathy.

My dear friend, Sue, wrote me this...

My last semester was really tough and I had so much work to do! Still, I have a lovely 5 week holiday to enjoy now, and what better way to start it than to see Roger in concert!!!

My friend Rachael was in charge of tickets, and did very well in remembering to bring them to Manchester with us, but left her street map at home so we didn't know where we were going! We found a map near the station, but got lost so we had to start again. We decided to find the place before we ate, and it took over an hour to walk to the venue and then back to the city centre. We ate in the first place we came to, then headed back.
We met a friend of Rachael's there, whose house we were staying at overnight, and went straight in to get a good place. We were standing for an hour before the show started, but it meant we got a really good view!

Treana Morris did a great set

- she really has an incredible voice! You might have read some reviews of her singing Sleeping on the Sidewalk, for me it was one of the high points of the evening. She seemed really surprised at the reaction she got from the audience - it was such a great atmosphere, we were really having a fab time!

When Roger finally came on stage it was electric - for me it was

even more exciting than seeing Brian!

I couldn't believe I was there!

Roger was absolutely fantastic

- the songs he did from Electric Fire absolutely came alive, I didn't think I knew them that well but I could sing along to every word.

There was a really great vibe between him and the audience, it was amazing. For me the high points were Nation of Haircuts, Tonight, Believe in Yourself, A Kind of Magic (when Roger nearly pulled the mike stand over!), Under Pressure and London Town, which he did with Treana Morris. Also Surrender sounded incredible live, and it was so exciting for me to here him sing Strange Frontier, as it is possibly my favourite Roger song of all time!

There was not a single point when the quality dropped - Roger and the fantastic band were on top form all the way through, and the audience were right behind them all the way. When we got back to Ian's house we couldn't do anything except sit and catch out breath! I was chief photographer, and I got some pretty good shots - in one of them Roger's smiling right into the camera!

And last, but sure not least, Kat saw Roger in London..

Needless to tell you why I have a deep sigh, hm?

Subject: Re: 3rd April

Well, I haven't got a tape recorder and my mum forget the camera, so no tapes or piccies. And so, armed only with a notebook and pencil, I went forth into the unknown...

I arrived at the Astoria about 6:00, as the show started at 7:00...
and the queue was all the way down the side street! No chance of getting to the front, unfortunately. Wated around for 1/2 an hour until anything interesting happened. The Astoria happens to be a gay club, and people were walking past the queue saying things like "that place is really popular" "are all those people gay" and so on. Then we could hear the sound check taking place inside, the music and voice of Treana first, then 10 mins later... Ahhhhhh luvly.... the unmistakeable sound of We Will Rock You filtered through the air, and the wonderful tones of The God came to us on the breeze... there was another one, but I forgot that (should have made a note, I know).

6:30ish, ate sandwiches.
7:00, nothing happened.
7:10, finally they opened the doors! Hurray!
7:15, went in through the door, got searched by a guard, rude man. Knew there was no chance of getting to the front downstairs, so rushed up to the balcony, the first 2 rows of which were reserved, either side of the mixing desk, and the place where the guy who controls the lights sits.

Managed to sit on the row behind, right behind the mixing desk, a wonderful central position, could see everything on the stage, everything the lights guy was doing! (to all those who thought the smoke machine was going off by accident, haha, he was doing it on purpose). So, more waiting till 7:45 ish, then Treana came on stage to do her set, which i sent to WQ already. Not too bad, though I didn't recognise Sleeping on the Sidewalk until she started singing.

Off she goes, and another 10 mins or so, then all the lights went off, there were noises like someone opening a door (creak) walking across the stage and electrical noises, sounding like someone being electrocuted accompanied by flashing lights. Then We Will Rock You started and the lights came on, there was Rog behind the drums! (lots of screaming from the crowd) Then he came to the microphone, and he sang some more songs he was jumping around the stage, kept slapping his leg Oh he's great..... During I want to break free someone threw a green bra at Jason Falloon, Roger came over and took it, then he draped it over the head of the Bassist, everyone laughed! (well I did anyway) Then later on, I don't remember which son it was in, Rog took his glasses off and flashed a cheeky grin at the front row, who all screamed! I wished I was there then, I can tell you! Later on there was some fun with balloons, people kept pulling them off the walls and hitting them towards the stage, Rog hit them back a couple of times, then he jumped on them! The bra made a reappearance somewhere too, the Bassist put it back on his head...

During some songs Rog had a tambourine which he kept hitting against his leg, and then going up to his drum kit and hitting the cymbal....
Well, as you know, it was all wondeful apart from me not being at the front anyway, I wonder if I sent him my ticket if he would sign it and send it back? Well, it is no. 1 so he might, but on the other hand if I did that and he didn't send it back then it would be gone forever... Hmmm,

decisions....

Kat
