ROGER TAYLOR.

The moves of the God of percussion.

Yeah... He is so alive!

Here some news, some rumours and knowabouts from Rog.

Not checked out, so if you find something wrong in the things, just bang a message to me, will you?

FUN IT!!

The thing is that Roger has something with Mr Murdoch.. Or against it!
And it is hot news, in Sept 1998!

14-9-1998
I heard on the radio earlier that Roger has pledged £10,000 into the fund to stop Manchester United being bought up by Rupert Murdoch.
While it's all great and all, and it means Roger is the top news story at the moment,
I can't help thinking that the timing is a little close to the release of his album, but maybe that's just me being a bugger :)

Dave

If this means that ALL Man Utd fans buy Roger's new album then I'm all for it.
Perhaps they ought to make 'Dear Mr. Murdoch' their theme tune and all by Hapiness? too....

Maybe I´m a little bit naiv but I think he´s doing it because he really dislike people like Rupert Murdoch!

Probably a coincedence
But it had me looking for Roger Taylor's website.....And lo and behold I find that he has a new album out
So if it was a publicity stunt it worked however Mr Taylor doesnt need to do such things
I should think it was quite a genuine gift on his part.

Andy

Yeah, we just got it on the 5pm tv news in Sydney -
'the drummer from the rock band ... (gee it was great when they said the next word) ...
queen (double great cos it wasn't bad news)
Gudinski (the head of Mushroom Records Australia, a subsid of Festival etc etc) must be DEAD jealous .... 'news' just had a celibratory function to welcome them into the corp..
well he problie didn't wanna do the endless round of media stuff! :-)
still it's been getting good airplay in europe from what ppl have been sayin' in 'ere...

an interview with him on Ch.4 news (UK)
He said this isn't anything personnal against Murdoch, pity, but that football teams, like rock stars, would be nothing without their fans so he wants to help the Man U fans.
He also said he's no Man U fan but his son is.
The money he gave was just so that a venue could be hired for last nights meeting.

What he actually said was that he didn't "want to get into anything personal"...but I suspect it *is* a personal thing...
even though the cameras pointed out a nice little satellite dish or two, sprouting sweetly on the top of Roger's beautiful home...

I think it's great!
It's the first time that one of my favourite musicians is coming together with my favourite football team...apart from them singing We Are The Champions at the end of nearly every season, of course *cheeky grin*
When I got home from school, Mum said "What team does Roger Taylor support?" and I immediately knew that it had something to do with Man Utd, even if he doesn't support them .

There'll be a special version of Pressure On (probably just in the UK, but what would I know!) with Dear Mr Murdoch as a B-Side.

I don't think that Roger really cares that much for the publicity side, even though it is important.
Dave, you said something about it being close to the album release, but he couldn't have done anything sooner as BSkyB only offered last week.
Besides, you only have to listen to Dear Mr Murdoch to know that he'd love to help anyone in stopping the guy from owning even more big money makers. And I suppose he's also doing it because Rufus is a Man Utd fan and Rog doesn't want to have to pay the charges for pay-per-view matches :-)

David "Sully" Sullivan

You know what's so amazingly odd.
Since this Sky offer about a week ago, I decided to dig out Happiness and play in particular "Dear Mr Murdoch". I thought it was so fitting to recent events that I scanned the booklet lyrics, did some arty-farty work to it and made it my wallpaper on my Mac at work.
Now up comes Roger with all this now and even the people I work with were surprised when they found that theweird poem that was on my screen was a song written by a certain Mr. Taylor.

17-9-1998

My son watches the UK Football Premier League closely and apparently Manchester United is engaging in a fund raising bit related to ownership of the team.
At the event was schedled to appear a "special mystery guest". And guess what?!
Turned out to be Roger himself whose son, Rufus, is a huge Man United fan.
How about that!

And how about the party animal?
NOW???

16-9-1998
Roger's garden party concert was subject to a hilarious piece in the Sunday Times (Sept, 13);
the writer had gone to the party and said it was filled with a bunch of old toffs in black tie scarfing back avocado dip and champagne --

the most bizarre "rock" concert he had ever been to

. He didn't mention Roger, but he did say that Ringo Starr's version of Yellow Submarine was pathetic. He called it, and I'm quoting him here, "old rock and roll for old people".
