Rib jig
jig3.jpg

The rib jig is done, slightly modified from the above picture.  I'm mitering all my joints for a good fit.

A tip from fellow ragwingers- Don't sand the mitered joints on your ribs. The dust will clog the pores of the wood and will give a less than perfect glue joint.

I now think I would have left the rib in the jig till the glue cured.. then applied the gusstes to the other side. I was terrified that the rib would get stuck in the jig though..live and learn.

Ribs #1 and #5 on each wing butt up to the spars where you have 1/8" ply doublers. Instead of building all the ribs the same, then having to modify these ribs later, I put a 1/8" spacers in the jig where the ribs would meet the spar. This will save from having to add a 1/4"x1/4" piece and then triming it.
