Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye in the movie The Last of the Mohicans.

The Last of the Mohicans

In the May 2000 issue of Biography magazine they interviewed Roma Downey. The questions were all related to...if she was stranded on a desert island. They asked her if there was any movie character that she'd like to have with her? She answered, "It would definitely be Daniel Day-Lewis' character in The Last of the Mohicans so that he would say, "No matter where you are, I will find you." Then I could relax and never have to worry about being rescued."

Who can forget the hauntingly beautiful music of Clannad in the background singing I Will Find You or the equally haunting and hypnotic song The Gael? The complete quote from the movie, to which Roma was referring to:

Hawkeye to Cora: "No, you submit, do you hear? You be strong, you survive...you stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you. I will find you!"

Hawkeye and Cora.

This movie is one of my favorites! It is a movie best appreciated on the "bigger the screen the better!" ;-)

This version of The Last of the Mohicans was released in 1992 and was directed by Michael Mann and starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madaline Stowe. It is based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper.

Various summaries:

British and French troops do battle in colonial America, with aid from various native American war parties. The British troops enlist the help of local colonial militia men, who are reluctant to leave their homes undefended. A budding romance between a British officer's daughter and an independent man who was reared as a Mohawk complicates things for the British officer, as the adopted Mohawk pursues his own agenda despite the wrath of different people on both sides of the conflict.

As the English and French soldiers battle for control of the North American colonies in the 18th century, the settlers and native Americans are forced to take sides. Cora and her sister Alice unwittingly walk into trouble but are saved by Hawkeye, an orphaned settler adopted by the last of the Mohicans.
