In this page:
The Church of S. Andrea is close to the Quirinale palace, hence the name used by Vasi, although it should be more properly named S. Andrea dei Padri Gesuiti (that's why it is in Book 7). The view is taken from the green dot in the 1748 map below. In the description below the plate Vasi made reference to: 1) S. Andrea al Quirinale; 2) Monastero delle Monache (nuns) Cappuccine; 3) Monastero delle Monache Dominicane; 4) Piazza di Monte Cavallo (Quirinale). 4) is shown in another page.
Via Pia linking Porta Pia to the Quirinale is now called Via XX Settembre (the day Rome was reunited to Italy) and many official buildings have been built along it. The last portion is however unchanged apart from the two nunneries which were pulled down. At the end of Via XX Settembre Piazza del Quirinale shows the obelisk added by Pope Pius VI. The Church
Bernini built this church for Cardinal Pamphilj, nephew of Pope Innocentius X
in 1678, so it is one of his last works, he himself considered it to be
a masterpiece.
