CAR -- the Cordillera Administrative Region. CAR is situated on the east of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan; south of the Ilocos Region; north of Pangasinan and Cagayan, and west of the Cagayan Valley. The region has 6 provinces --- Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, and Apayao.

The region has mainly highlands, and some plains.

Many kinds of fruits and vegetables are harvested in the Trinidad Valley in Benguet because of the cool climate. These products are sold in Metro Manila and other regions as well. This is the reason why CAR is called the "Salad Bowl of the Philippines"

Aside from farming, the Ifugaos also engage in carving (liliok). The carvings out of pine and mahogany are of excellent quality. They also make bags and baskets. These products are always sought and bought by tourists.

Baguio City -- Benguet. The "Summer Capital of the Philippines" is a famous vacation spot for foreign as well as Filipino tourists. Because of its cool climat even during the summer in the Philippines, people enjoy going to Baguio.

Banawe Rice Terraces  -- refered as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. These rice terraces were carved out of the harsh, mountainous landscape of Banaue several thousand years ago. More wondrous is the fact that these terraces are still functional today. Access to Banaue is difficult, as roads are rough, but the effort is always worth it.Accomodations in the rustic towns are simple but comfortable, as well as very inexpensive.

Sagada, Mountain Province -- This peaceful little settlement high in the mountains of Northern Luzon is often a stopover for those visiting the Banaue Rice Terraces. Aside from fresh air, breathtaking scenery and quiet rusticity. Sagada is famous for its cliffside caves where mummified ancestors of the native people are buried in canoe-shaped coffins. Accomodations are available and local guides are charming and friendly. Sagada can be reached via Baguio.
