Region 1 -- the Ilocos Region. It is made up of 4 provinces --- Ilocos Norte, Ilocos sur, La Union, and Pangasinan. West of the region is the China sea; the Central Luzon region is rigth below it; to its east is the Mountain Province, Abra, and Benguet; and to its north is the Babuyan Islands.

    The region has plains as well as highlands. Here, the rainy season is from May to October, and the sunny season is from November till April. The sunny season is long in the region because of the Cordillera mountain range on its east. Because of this mountain range the Ilocos region is shielded from rains.

    Their industries are farming, cigarette-making, fishing, and salt-making. The Ilocanos also engage in weaving. The famous Ilocano-woven blankets are sold in neigboring regions and in Metro Manila.
