Is korroke a southern Japanese dish?

My mom knows of it but she's not too familiar, and she's from Hokkaido. I once stayed with a family in Kagoshima (everyone on this list, if you get to travel to Kyushu, you must visit Kagoshima!), and the mother of the family used to run a restaurant that specialized in korroke. It's a fried potato dumpling, is that right? She wanted me to help her sell the idea to sell korokke stateside through Taco Bell (she loves Taco Bell, from a previous visit to the U.S.).

Korokke is an import from Europe (it is katakana for "croquette"). I suppose since the first contact point was Nagasaki it might have entered there, but now it is a fairly widespread "standard" in Japan.

And you may be surprised to learn that tempura, another fried "Japanese" standard is also a European import:
