Rep. Henry Hyde

The Head Inquisitor

Watching the impeachment trial, I am reminded of the best scene from the classic Mel Brooks film History of the World: Part I. Remember that great scene where Torquemada (Brooks) erupts into a loud song and dance number about tourturing Jews for their own good? That reminds me of Henry Hyde every time I see him speak. Oh, he may not sing or dance. But I get the impression that he is always about to.

We gave him the Rush Limbaugh Award for the blatant double-standard Hyde holds for others but not for himself in regard to affairs. As has now been well documented, but was first revealed in an article in Salon Magazine, Hyde carried on a five-year sexual relationship with Cherie Snodgrass which broke up her family. Yes, the man who said Bill Clinton should resign for having an affair has himself had an affair. And not only has he not left office, He's overseeing the trial of a man whose only crime is one that Hyde himself is guilty of!

The really outrageous thing is that Hyde said his adultery was excusible, being a "youthful indiscretion". He had his affair while in his mid-40's.

Wow. Who'd have thunk maturity comes upon hitting 47? No Wonder George Bush Jr. calls all the wild things he did in his 30's "kid stuff". But I'll save THAT rant for another day...

In the meantime, Mr. Hyde, please come collect your Rush Award. And please remember these words...

" ...he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone..."

John 8:7
