Pics from SME 5.9 in Hocking Hills, OH April 27th - April 30th 2001
Here's the typical shot of my bike at the start (or middle) of my trip. This shot was taken at a fuel stop in Akron, OH enroute to Hocking Hills. I ended up staying here a bit longer than I had anticipated. Read on... Upon arriving to the Top 'o the Caves Campground... this is a shot of type typical cabin some of our beloved 'maggots relaxed in. Picture L-R are Rachel (Jack's SO), Curtis, Jack (Rachel's SO) and Carl from Bethesda. Here's another shot of the same cabin. Here we see the back of Lee, Curtis (setting out hit basement collection of V4 parts for sale), Carl and Ray. Here's a shot of all the cabins that were in the immediate area where most of us setup our tents.
While I was taking a break at my fuel stop in Akron, OH and eating/chewing some trail mix... I bit into something hard and cracked one of my molars. Yeow! I thought about turning around and heading back... but we all know that "pain and sweat is just weakness leaving the body", right? This incident happened about mid-day Friday. I called my dentist and was told the soonest he could see me was sometime on Monday... so I decided to push on. Glad I did as I got to meet many old as well as some new faces.
Once everyone got settle in... we decided to head to the local greasy spoon. I forget the name... but it was the closed place that had (somewhat) edible food. Menu choice was sparse as I believed everyone ordered a burger. The and the owner/waiter took a bit getting used to. Pictured L-R is Paul (Ryder's bud), Bob (our local canuck) and GadgetDan. Still in the greasy spoon, here we see pictured L-R is Ray, someone with a "Cars Suck" T-shirt (this is what happens when you wait 3 months to put a webpage together), Ryder and Lee. This pic show's Carl relaxing. Yes, that's a LEO belt he's wearing. Can't remember if he was packing or not. This last dinner pic shows Jeff, Mike and Jack.
Saturday we were awakened to the smell of sausage, eggs and coffee courtesy of Russell. The way he and Ann took care of us that weekend... it was a general consensus that someone needs to sabatoge his bike before every SMx he's planning to attend. Pictured L-R is Russell (our official SabMag chef), Kern and Ray. The mornings in Hocking Hills were COLD. After breakfast you see Dave, Brock, Curtis (trying to stoke the fire with methane gas), Lee, Ryder, Onur and Paul. While enroute to Hocking Hills, Dan Jones developed a squeal (not the kind from Deliverance) in his rear wheel. Yep, wheel bearings. Friday evening was spent trying to decide how to help out Dan. Phil finally made the command decision to ride his truck (and bike) back to Columbus. By doing this he brought Dan a new rear wheel (with good bearings) and the Slut Sabre. I regret not taking a pic of this bike as it was a very nice looking V65 Sabre that Phil brought back. For folks electing to rough it in tents... this is what it looked like once everyone setup camp. At $7/night... you couldn't beat this price. With no rain this particular weekend... it was most excellent camping.
Taking a break from riding through midday Saturday... we see Ray, Curt, Lee and Brock gathered around my beautiful V65 Sabre. I have to admit... that with slightly worn K591s on my V65 Sabre and lots of gravel in the turns... I was becoming overly cautious in the turns. You see... coming from The Land of 11 Turns in 318 Miles I'm not used to these kind of roads. I use these SabMag events to work on my technique. Another shot of Brock, Ray, Curt and Lee. Here you can see Ray's VFkR. Nice bike, eh? Wonder where he got such a fine looking bike??? Some of us have to work for a living... so here we see Chris and Stephanie joining us later after most of were already done riding for the day. They didn't come to ride... but to engage in social intercouse. As can be seen by this pic... Chris doesn't waste any time engaging in social intercourse with Katerine (KB).
Here's a shot of Curtis' Red Rooster with some custom paint. Expect this bike to look different (even still) once he get's his ripper motor installed from DRP. Notice the V65 Sabre wheels on this bike? I've done completely the opposite by putting 16" V65 Magna wheels on my V65 Sabre. You heard about RW and his incident, right? Well, here's a couple of shots of his bike. This all happened within 24 hours of his owning the bike. If you notice the tank bra... something must have pushed it up. Yeow!
From the front we can see the front end tweaked. See that drooping turn signal? My guess is that's how RW's package must have felt the entire weekend.
You heard about the Spec II fairing, right? If not, check out this one on Kern's V65 Sabre. If you ever wondered what a V65 Sabre would look like painted solid black... here's your answer. FWIW, this bike looked very good and is currently For Sale at the time of this write-up.
Here's a shot of a few of our bikes before heading out to dinner later that evening. Picture here is Ray and a couple (2/3) of his kids. This shot shows Jack and his wife Rachel. In the back there is Ray's 3rd child. Hidden somewhere is his wife. Pictured here is Wyn, Ron, Kern and ???.
This shot shows Carl, the missing chair belongs to me, Curt and Erik. From L-R we see Onur, Curtis, Katherine (KB) and Richard (RW). Seated here is Stephanie and husband Chris and Bob from Canada.

That's it! Hope you enjoyed the pics and the few words I put by them. If you'd like me to add something or if I need to correct something... let me know. Thanks.
