Survivors Against Domestic Violence (SADV) was born of the desire to put an end to violence in all forms. We strive to provide a positive influence on victims by showing them that a non-violent life is attainable. We promote a network of support for those who are suffering as well as those who are recovering from a violent relationship.
As members of SADV we pledge to:
We have the right to:
A life without violence
Make mistakes and learn from them
Set limits
Voice our opinions
Take control over our own life and change direction should we feel the need to do so
Grow as a person
Choose for ourselves what we believe in
Equality
Respect
Privacy
The SADV will continually work towards our goals of:
Educating the public in order to bring Domestic Violence out into the open where it can be seen for the horrible epidemic it is. Shattering the myths surrounding domestic violence and by doing so take power away from abusers. Giving support and direction to victims as well as survivors of violence. Working to gain new laws that will assure protection for victims and punishment for the abusers.
We have each walked a long hard road. A road that was sometimes overcome by abuse, denial, danger and fear. We reached a fork on the road, one was the easy road of the violence we had become so accustomed to and the other was a very scary, unknown road, it was the road of survival. Some of us have walked this road, others ran and some even crawled. How we got here is not as important as the fact that we are here. What has lead us all to this group is a thought we all share.....we cannot forget those who chose the other road. We will never forget those who chose the other road, who lost their sanity and their lives to domestic violence.
It is not required that you be a member of Survivors Against Domestic Violence to join our web ring, however there are certain requirements for being placed in the SADV Web Ring. The requirements are as follows: The SADV Web Ring Committee has designed several different web ring fragments for you to choose from. The choice on which fragment to use is strictly a matter of preference. To Join please read the detailed instructions below the fragments then fill out the form immediately below the instructions.

1. Once you have decided to join, decide which style of fragment you want to use and copy the associated graphics to your hard drive to be later uploaded to your server. If you haven't decided yet, it's just as easy to copy all of them and delete the ones you don't want later.
2. Decide which page of your site will hold the fragment. The URL you give us should point to this page. If you use frames you will have to give us the URL of your frameset page ... or you might consider putting your ring page(s) outside of the frames. If we can't find the fragment (then probably no one else can either) and we won't be able to add you to the ring. Anyhow, see rule #5 above.
Just a few thoughts here on navigation and other things. You have to realize that you can probably get around your own site with your eyes closed but first-time visitors haven't a clue where anything is unless you help them. Make sure your webring page at least can be found from the "home" page and that all pages on your site have a link back to "home" as well. A while ago I was reviewing a site for one of my personal webrings and landed on the page with the fragment and found no other link except "prev" and "next" ... and these only led to other ring pages ... and nowhere did I find a link to anywhere else. Very rude. I edited the URL in the location box at the top of my browser to get out of there and emailed the master of the site and advised him how to put in links. He did. I then admitted him into the ring.
Other stuff of note are graphic dimensions. Very important. There are no intuitive web browsers ... none. When you go to a URL the browser asks the host for the HTML (or whatever) document. The host sends it all at once and the browser then parses (reads and decodes) it one line at a time. When it reaches an IMG tag it looks for height and width dimensions. If it finds them it calculates where and how the image will fit and goes on. When it finishes parsing the HTML the server has sent it will display all of the page that it can with space reserved for images shown as a rectangle on your screen. If there are no dimensions provided it has to then download all the images, measure them, and figure out how to fit them all in. On a graphics-intensive page this could take a long time. So, though it may be a little trouble (or a lot), make sure all your graphics are dimensioned. That way a visitor will be able to read what you have to say while waiting for the graphics to load.
End of sermons.
3. Click on the join button below and fill in the form provided. You will be asked to verify the information and then you'll be on your way. After you accept the information as accurate you will be presented with a screen from WebRing telling you that you're in the queue.
4. Within a few minutes from then you will receive an email containing a further verification of your site information, links that will enable you to edit your site information and get the fragment code if you later need it, and a customized copy of all the fragment codes with all the necessary things filled in. We don't include your email address or the name of your site because we figure it's your job to let people know where they are and how to contact you ... and it makes for a smaller code fragment.
5. Copy-and-paste the proper fragment code onto the proper page, then upload it along with the appropriate graphic(s) to your server. We allow you 72 hours to get this done.
6. Email the RingMaster to let us know it's all up there and we will come within a day or so and look it all over and then (most likely) admit you to the ring.
That's it! Now go join!
