Store History
Sakura Gifts has been serving the Sacramento area for well over 50 years. In the years before World War II, Sacramento had a thriving Japantown. Mostly consisting of small shops stretching from Third and Sixth streets and M and Q streets.
In 1942 residents of Japanese descent were forced into internment camps. A few years later some of these individuals returned, but struggled to regian their business. In the years to come they were again forced out by downtown's redevelopment plans. Most owners either closed up shop or tried relocating.
A handful of Japanese American families purchased property along the bocks of T and W, and invited the former business owners to open up shop just a few blocks away from where they had once blossomed before the war.
Today, only a handful of the business' are still open. Sakura Gifts is proud to still be serving the Japanese community and the greater Sacramento area. Please visit our store for some unique Japanese gifts.
