Thank You !!!

To Dr. Robert Sarnoff
A Warmhearted Thank You

This web page is dedicated to my pulmonologist, Dr. Robert Sarnoff, who saved my life on Feb.12, 2001.  Dr. Sarnoff arrived at a critical time while I was in the throes of a serious viral infection in Green Hospital.  Fortunately, he recognized the unique intricacies of my polio pulmonary condition and immediately sensed the severity of the accompanying complications.  Dr. Sarnoff knew I was precariously perched between life and death.  With his intuitive medical experience, he saved my life.  Dr. Sarnoff’s personal touch allowed me to emerge from a life threatening illness to a second chance at life.  I’m very grateful to Dr. Sarnoff for spending time getting to know me, along with my medical history.  Besides being my pulmonologist, Dr. Sarnoff is a long time friend.

Thank you for being there, Dr. Sarnoff.

To Dr. Perlman
A Whole Hearted Thank You

May 8, 2001

I truly appreciated your visit when I returned home from the hospital.  The experience of being on life support and the accompanying weakness brought the added pain of doubt … could I regain my strength?  Your warm, personal presence in the comfortable surroundings of our home gave me hope.  Your visit also gave me a new determination to seek the innate goodness in people, especially those who are in a unique position to help the PPS community.

My recovery is a very slow process with better swallowing, easier breathing, more walking, renewed strength and an inner peace.

The words “thank you” seem inadequate to express the sincere depth of my gratitude for your genuine and caring support.  However, I hope these words will convey the feelings in my heart.

Thank you for being there.

To Itzhak Perlman
A Gracious Thank You

On behalf of the PPS community, I would like to extend a special thank you to Itzhak Perlman for giving us his time and consideration on March 4, 2001.

Mr. Perlman graciously agreed to a private meeting to discuss the immediate needs of people with PPS.  However, I was unable to take advantage of this rare opportunity, as I was recovering from being sick.  My husband, Steve, represented me, along with Dr. Susan Perlman, Head of the UCLA Post Polio Clinic, Kathleen Murray, from The Salk Institute, Shelah Michael and Laura Hiltz from the San Diego Post Polio Group.  Christopher Howson, the Global Director of the March of Dimes, provided documents from the PPS Conference (Warms Springs, GA, May 2000) and a personal letter from the MOD requesting Mr. Perlman’s support for PPS.

As always, Itzhak Perlman was delightful and I hope to meet him when I’m well again.

Thank you for being there, Itzhak Perlman
