The Doctor hit the golf ball perfectly.
It landed in the small hole; clinking against the metal flag post on it's way down. She waved the hockey stick in the air
and yelped with joy. "Ha ha and they thought I was going to be a golf widow."
"Doctor, the Master has fifteen strokes over
you." Claire looked at her watch. "Isn't it about time we went off to save Hadron Beta?"
"Yes Claire, you're right of course.
Go and get the Master there's a good girl.
The Master hit the putt perfectly and the
ball went in for yet another birdy. "I think you'll agree that was a perfect shot David."
"Yes Master, it was an excellent
demonstration of your superiority over a small piece of plastic."
"Well done that was almost a compliment."
"What is
all golf stuff anyway?"
"Well as I couldn't beat the Doctor in the planetary conquering game I thought I'd try golf and
as you can see I'm humiliating her."
"Wasn't her Ninth incarnation the golfing pro?"
"Yes, that's why I selected her,
she's never shown much of an interest in sports."
"She's fighting back though. Ah here's Claire."
"Has the Doctor submitted
to my superiority?"
"Not quite she told me to remind you she has to nip off and save Hadron Beta."
"Hadron Beta, oh
yes. That was nasty, fifty thousand Taran androids against a similar number of Kraal androids. The Android Invasion of Tara
they called it afterwards I do believe."
"Well she should be back any second now, I'm really the decoy to keep you occupied
while she slips away."
"That wily old so and so well I think I'll let her get away with this one. I can be quite generous
in victory. I just hope I can find a use for the two of you."
"What?"
"What?"
"Ha ha ha. A splendid jape don't you
think? I made you think the Doctor had staked you in this little game."
"Ha ha beard features."
"Very funny."
"Here
she comes now. My Doctor you do look a little worse for wear."
"My hair will grow back Master but your lead is beyond recovery.
On my way back I stopped off and had a few lessons from Tiger Woods."
"Well then Doctor lets finish this shall we?"
Afterwards
the Doctor took a nice cool sip of real lemonade. She was sat on the veranda of her Canadian log cabin retreat. Dressed in
one of her favourite lacy frocks she sighed. "I suppose I should have told them I have staked them in that game with you Master."
The
Master laughed. "Well the looks on their faces when they found out they really were a wager would last me a few years. Still
you came close seventy two shots isn't that bad a deficit."
"Just have them back intact and alive."
"My dear Doctor
they will come to no harm tidying out my TARDIS...probably." The Master laughed at the look on the Doctor's face.
