This
was it, she'd show them all, she'd make them realise just how cool she really was and they'd missed knowing just how great
a person Jamie Myers really was. Carefully Jamie lifted the handgun to her head and pulled back the hammer. They'd miss her
now wouldn't they? They'd find out how cool she was, she'd show them wouldn't she. Jamie aimed the pistol to her temple. Just
squeeze the trigger and it's all over, she'd show them for ignoring her. She'd show them for not noticing her. Just squeeze
the trigger.
"Excuse me young woman, would you like a jelly baby?"
Jamie
turned around to see a strange man standing in his front room. The guy was obviously an escaped mental patient, one of those
care in the community types that no one in the community actually cared for. He wore a seemingly random assemblage of clothing,
as if fashion was only a passing consideration.
"Go
ahead, they're very nice."
Jamie
could don't believe how absurd this all was. Here she was about to top herself and this lunatic had broken into her house
to offer her some sweets. "Who are you?"
"That's
a very intelligent question young lady and quite right too. I am the Doctor."
"Who?"
"Ah
good, you've heard of me then."
"What?"
"Never
mind, would you be so good as to put that down please? Guns make me nervous and besides you might hurt yourself."
Jamie
laughed, she couldn't help herself. "That is rather the point Doctor whatever you name is."
The
Doctor paused. "Well if you seem quite determined to use that thing, then perhaps you won't mind delaying using it for a while.
I would like to show you something."
"I'm
not interested in seeing that. Who are you? Some sort of flasher?"
"Hardly,
I'm a traveller and what I'd like to show you is life. Not just your life, such as it is but all life. What would you say
if I have a machine that can travel through time and space to other planets?"
"I'm
still not interested you pervert."
The
Doctor motioned to a large blue box. "Why don't you have a look inside of this cabinet Jamie Myers, I think you'll find it
quite interesting."
"How
do you know my name? Are you stalking me?"
The
Doctor shook his head. "Humour me, after all it's slightly less final than firing that thing at your head isn't it?"
Jamie
stepped past the weird geezer and looked inside the blue box. "There's something inside, it's an illusion isn't it?"
"It's
not an illusion Jamie, the TARDIS is my home."
Jamie
stepped into the TARDIS properly and found out that it really wasn't an illusion, however her brain couldn't cope with any
more and everything went blurry and she passed out.
The
Doctor walked into the TARDIS, threw the gun outside and closed the doors before the strange battered blue box suddenly vanished
leaving the room as empty as when it first arrived.
Jamie
Myers held onto the huge frame of the Doctor as another bubble of emotion welled up from deep inside of her. “I don’t know what to do anymore Doctor, how can I go back there and look them in the eye? Not one of them cared you know Doctor, no one even sent me a Christmas card. Can you believe that? I’ve been
there three years and not one card? Ever.”
She dabbed at her eyes with the soft floppy wool of his scarf again. “I
must look like a frightful mess, I’m getting mascara on your scarf.”
The
Doctor patted Jamie again. “You can wash scarves a lot easier than you
can erase pain.” He broke the embrace.
“I’ve had a thought, well it’s more of an idea really. Why
don’t we visit somewhere where you can discover your strengths? Just you,
me and K-9? What do you say to that K-9?”
K-9
emerged from the corridor outside of the console room. “Affirmative Master.”
“You
see, even K-9 agrees and he’s such a stickler at times.”
Jamie
looked at the strange creature. “It’s a robot dog.”
“Well
K-9 is much more than that but I don’t think he’ll take offence this time.
Will you K-9?”
“Negative
offence Mistress Jamie.” K-9 wagged his tail at the new Mistress.
The
immediate landscape was dusty and devoid of any living thing. The Doctor and
Jamie emerged from the TARDIS into a barren and featureless wasteland of greys.
“I
think we must have taken a wrong turn back there at Barnard’s Star. I could
have sworn this was Swansea.”
“Looks
more like a quarry to me.” Jamie muttered sarcastically.
“Yes,
I think you’re right except that the sky is orange, the clouds are pale green and there’s a seven foot octopus
over there waving all his tentacles at us.” The Doctor waved back. “Hello, it’s a nice day to visit you planet, can you direct us to the
nearest centre of habitation?”
Jamie
looked at the creature and screamed. Then she noticed it had several guns so
she screamed louder.
“Will
you stop doing that? You’ll frighten the poor thing away.”
“It’s
got a gun Doctor!” Jamie pointed at the killer thing.
“Nonsense,
I know a gun when I see one.” The impact of a bullet threw up a small cloud
of dust near their feet. “It’s got a gun Jamie.”
“What
are we going to do?” Jamie pleaded for someone to tell her what to do.
“Back
in the TARDIS I think.” The Doctor pushed his new companion into the time
machine gently but firmly.”
Jamie
tripped over K-9 as she was pushed into the TARDIS.
“Apologies
Mistress.” K-9 said as he lay on his side.
“Come
on K-9 you can’t lie about there all day.” The Doctor strode over
to the console and closed the doors. “Well not the adventure I had in mind
but it’s a start. Now lets get back to Brighton and hopefully this time I can see the pier being opened.”
The
Doctor looked out at the vista before his eyes. “This isn’t Brighton either.”
Jamie
tried to peak out from around the Doctor’s broad shoulders. “Where
are we then?”
“Well
it’s either Newark or the
planet Skaro. Either way the natives are very unfriendly.”
“EXTERMINATE!” A Dalek patrol chanted their anthem of death as they trundled towards the strangers. “EXTERMINATE! ANNIHILATE! DESTROY! DALEKS CONQUOR AND DESTROY! DALEKS CONQUOR AND DESTROY! DALEKS CONQUOR
AND DESTROY!”
“What
the hell is that?” Jamie demanded when she spotted a tall blue skinned
man dressed in tight fitting plastic clothes.
“A
Thal!” The Doctor pulled the ancient enemy of the Daleks inside the TARDIS
before dematerialising the old girl once again.
“Hello,
I’m Dysonn.”
Jamie
rushed over to the exit of the console room.
“Where
are you going?” The Doctor asked.
“To
put on a short black skirt, I think I could pull tonight.”
The
Doctor looked down at K-9 and shrugged quizzically. “She’s like you
and lamp posts.”
Dysonn
shrugged too. “What’s going on?”
The
Doctor rushed over to a roundel and grinning maniacally at the Thal he began to project his thoughts to his newfound friend. “Would you like a jelly baby? Only
it’s a long time to the first intermission.”
