As chairman of the Canton Chapter Book Fund Grant, I am pleased to announce that our award will be given to Allie Hinton, this year.
Allie is a senior at Newcomerstown High School, Newcomerstown, OH and she is the granddaughter of our chapter registrar, Debbie Hinton.

Allie lists the following as extracurricular activities: Student Council; Athletic Leadership Council; and is in the National Honor Society; she is a post-secondary student at Kent State-Tuscawaras campus.  She is quite the athlete and participates in basketball, softball, and is currently a member of the Road Runner Elite travel softball team and has played with Northern Ohio fast pitch and Twisted Sisters fast pitch travel teams.

Her community service includes Rotary Internet Club; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown, and has helped with Family Day for elementary students; rung the Salvation Army bell; served Thanksgiving dinner at CUMC; raked leaves for residents of Newcomerstown and helped with Biddy Baseball.

Allie's scholastic awards are very impressive showing us that she is an accomplished, well-rounded young lady.  Allie had her application mailed on March 28, 2013 proving that she is also a very prompt person.  The deadline for submitting applications was April 30, 2013.

In behalf of the Canton Chapter NSDAR, I would like to congratulate Allie and we will look forward to meeting her and presenting her with this award.  Allie is planning on attending Old Dominion University and wants to major in Sport Management.  We wish Allie all the best.

CANTON CHAPTER PARTICIPATES IN HISTORIC CELEBRATION
By Joy Dingman
Members of our Chapter took part in the re-enactment of the funeral procession for President William McKinley on Saturday, September 22, part of the centennial celebration of the dedication of the McKinley Monument.  Our Regent (at the time), Audrey Morrison, together with Chapter members Margaret Frost, Present Regent Kay Upole, and Eleanor Cartwright, walked in the procession in front of a horse-drawn carriage carrying (then) Canton Mayor Janet Weir Creighton, a member of our Chapter.  The procession began at the Church of the Savior Methodist Church, the President's church, and proceeded to the McKinley National Memorial, where he and his wife Ida Saxton McKinley are entombed.  Betty Graybill and Joy Dingman were also present for the ceremonies at the National Memorial.
The re-enactment was sponsored by Ohio York Rite Masons, including William McKinley Lodge No. 431, F.&A.M. The solemn procession, led by a large number of uniformed Knights Templar, included a horse-drawn hearse carrying a casket draped with a 45-star American Flag.  Representatives from other Masonic organizations, elected officials, and other dignitaries took part in the event.  The 25th President of the United States, William McKinley was a member of Canton Commandery No. 38 until his death by assassination in September 1901.
