CANTON CHAPTER ANNUAL REPORT

2011

Canton Chapter members sported their “spring” hats followed by a program on the “History of Tiffany’s” in April.

The chapter recognized nearly 200 participants from the JAC contest in May.  Thirteen contestants went to the State luncheon; thirteen won at the district level and four went on to win at the national levels.  We also recognized many local American Heroes from our community. We participated with the Stark County Bar Association Law Week Naturalization Ceremony distributing flags and refreshments.   Several members rode in the Canton Memorial Day Parade

Lt. Col. Hugo Doerschuk (retired US Army) shared many of his personal experiences from Desert Storm and Kuwait at our annual Flag Day Luncheon in June.  We presented an award to the Lowell Oberly American Legion Post of East Canton, Ohio.  Five new members were installed.

August found chapter members enjoying the outdoors at Wingfoot State Park for the annual DAR/SAR/CAR picnic.  CAR president spoke. We participated in a second Naturalization ceremony at the Stark County Courthouse.

World War II memorabilia was displayed and shared with members in September.  The Constitution Day Luncheon with four other area chapters and a Constitution Day parade in Louisville, Ohio was enjoyed by many Canton Chapter members.

We learned all about “Ghost Stories from the White House” in October.  We also marked a Revolutionary Soldier’s Grave.

In November we learned how the presidents were moved with the changing modes of transportation over the years.  December was a sweet treat with a program about the “History of Chocolate” and a soup luncheon. We installed 1 new member. Toys were donated to the Salvation Army.

2012

We had no meetings in January and February. Our annual business meeting is in March.  We will honor our deceased members in the morning.  Luncheon will be served before we continue with the business meeting.
