We are so sorry if you missed it.  Joy Dingman has written the following report.

CANTON CHAPTER CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY

Canton Chapter celebrated its 100th anniversary on Friday, November 21, with a gala dinner party at Brookside Country Club in Canton, where the Chapter held its first meetings. Among the 74 members and guests who braved inclement winter weather to be present were (from left) OSDAR Organizing Secretary Barbara Griffith, OSDAR Chaplain Doris Gorgas, Northeast District Director Nancy Valles, OSDAR Corresponding Secretary Sandra McCann, OSDAR Honorary Regent Ann Kitzmiller, Vice President General Marcia Seifert, OSDAR Scholarship Chair Roberta Cook, and OSDAR Parliamentarian Nancy Wright.

State Chaplain Gorgas presented greetings from State Regent Patsy Johnson Gaines. Vice President General Seifert gave greetings from the National Society. Chapter Regent Audrey Morrison read a letter of congratulations from President General Linda Gist Calvin.

Our member Janet Weir Creighton, former Mayor of Canton and now Deputy Assistant to President George W. Bush, served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the black-tie event. She read a letter of congratulations from the President. As a personal gift in memory of her mother, Ms. Creighton surprised the Chapter with a replacement Charter. Chapter members for months have been looking for the original charter, written on sheepskin, which has been lost sometime over the past century.

Six past Chapter Regents were recognized: Ruth Frock, Nora Henline, Carolyn Elsass, Elaine Savage, DeFrance Thomas, and Gloria Zanin.

Mrs. Morrison recognized Mr. Richard Croasdaile, grandson of  Charter Member Emma Hurt Croasdaile.

Entertainment included the Hoover High School Hi-Lo's under the direction of Mr. Kim Jacoby, and the K. E. Cavett and Company trio. A silent auction of many outstanding items attracted those in attendance. Parliamentarian Margaret Frost prepared a Power Point presentation of the Chapter's history. Exhibits and scrapbooks showing Chapter activities and history were on display.

To conclude the festivities, Mrs. Morrison read a letter to our Chapter of 2058, which will be placed in a locked safe along with other memorabilia of this occasion, to be opened at the Chapter's sesquicentennial anniversary.

The Celebration

The celebration was held at Brookside Country Club (actual location of original chapter meetings) on November 21st, 2008.  Janet Weir Creighton did a super job as Master of Ceremonies and other speakers also participated.  We'll be more detailed when we get over the glow of the evening and get our thinking sorted out.  Many of the guys and gals were dressed in more formal attire, but those who didn't were not uncomfortable.  There was a pleasant mix.  The music by the Kerry Cavett Trio was a perfect and elegant background to the events of the evening.  The Hoover Choir welcomed us to our dinner seats.  Janet Weir Creighton surprised us all with the generous presentation of a new copy of our charter - long sought but not found. .  Menu featured:  Chicken in puff pastry served with whipped, sweet potatoes and sugar snap peas with roasted red peppers.  This comes with a house salad, rolls, beverage and dessert.  A special DAR birthday cake was served for dessert.

A time capsule was dedicated to DAR's of 2058.  A silent auction of many precious items was held, and there was a Power Point presentation of past history (which may be repeated at a future meeting and also may be available for purchase at a later date).
