The Guatemalan's have the tradition of creating colorful sawdust rugs to celebrate religious traditions of the Holy Week. During a recent visit from Pope John Paul II to Guatemala City, the streets were the Pope passed were covered with colorful sawdust, pine, and flower rugs. Here are some of the pictures that I took on July 29, 2002, which shows a small piece of the many kilometers of rugs that were created by the Guatemalan Catholic community.
