Welcome to the home page for "THE ANT". "THE ANT" is an automated land vehicle developed and presented by the students of S.F.E ( Students Forum for Electronics ) for their annual hardware contest . The event was held at V.E.S.I.T ( Vivekananda Education Society's Institute of Technology ) engineering college. It bagged the FIRST prize at the mega-event.

"THE ANT" (as it's functions as one) is basically a complex electro-mechanical path following robot which has features which can help it intelligently avoid collisions due to obstructions and an inbuilt ability to differentiate large pits in its way. This serves as a prominent component of automation and has its technological importance .

THE ANT

This website is dedicated to the present status and further development of "THE ANT". We intend to add many new add-ons improve the present ones and increase the efficiency of their working. This site also provides information on the problems we faced and how we got around them.

Last but not least , we hope that this site serves as a functional medium for all future amateur robotics projects .

Take a look at What's New in our web.

What's New

The following is a list of recent additions to this web. Whenever we publish a paper, write a specification, submit a report, or add anything else to our web, we'll put a notice here. Every month we'll remove the oldest items. The most recent changes are listed first, and each item is linked to the page with the updated content.

The team is now building "Rover" ."Roveras we call it is the robot which we intend to complete by the the end of February. This robot would incorporate a lot more features than "THE ANT" did and has also a better design and efficient management of resources. This robot would be microprocessor controlled with data upload and download capabilities. The shortest path algorithm to be used for the navigation takes care of multiple obstacles of any shape. A link to the official website of the "Rover" project would be soon put up from here and documentation could be easily accessed.

The "THE ANT" project was submitted at the intercollegiate hardware contest at B.V.I.T college of Engineering. It won the SECOND prize among 10 teams from different colleges. The event was on October 4, 2000  and was organized by their Electronics and telecommunications student branch. We received a cheque for Rs 750/- , Free computer training course at Boston's and chip magazines as second prize from the chief guest Shri K.P.Rao  (Secretary of CSI student branch.)
