Louis Fossion (1914-2007)
Born in Belgium. Ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Immaculated Heart of Mary (CICM) on 2 August
1937.
Departed for China in 1938 and worked there in Xiwanzi (Zhangjiakou), then part of Inner Mongolia, until the
communist take-over when he was expelled.
Was sent to the Philippines where he founded a new parish for the Chinese in Manila. Later he worked in Belgium,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, and ultimately in Singapore.
For 28 years he was the beloved parish priest of Holy Spirit parish from where he raised the funds ($2 million)
and built the Church of Christ the King.
At the age of 82, he took up residence at the Church of St. Francis Xavier at the invitation of the then parish
priest Rev. Fr. John Sim.
He kept actively involved in many a pastoral task. In early 2004 he moved on into full retirement at St. Theresa's
Home on Upper Thomson Road.
The church has been preparing for his 70th Sacerdotal Anniversary on
2 August 07 with a mass and dinner in his honour at the Church of the Holy Spirit.
It will now be a memorial.
Funds raised at his dinner and sales of Lucky Draw tickets will be sent to build a church in Mongolia as
he had wished.
A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, 27 July 2007 at 8.00pm.
The Funeral was held on Saturday, 28 July at 10.30 am.
Cremation at Mandai Crematorium at 1.00pm
Rev. Fr. Fossion's ashes will be placed in the Columbarium of the
Church of the Holy Spirit.
