Egg-citing KIIDS Labs!

Kids Involved In Doing Science

3. Diaper Power!

PROBLEM: How does plastic help to adsorb wetness in a diaper?

PREDICT: What do you think will happen?

TEST AND OBSERVE: Follow these steps and write down your observations.

1. Pull off the plastic from the inner lining of the diaper.

2. Cut a 2" x 2" square from the lining and place in the zipper plastic bag.

3. Place one tablespoon of water into the plastic bag and zip up.

4. Massage the square with your fingers for about 1 minute. Do this carefully so you DON'T RIP OR TEAR THE Zip Lock Bag! What happens?

CHALLENGE: Cut a new diaper square and place in on a paper towel. Add water by the spoonful to see how much can be absorbed before soaking the paper towel.

CONCLUSION: What did you learn? You will write a conclusion statement in the classroom.
