BORIS
COMES TO MINNEAPOLIS
(with the Donnas!)
On August 1st, 1999, after months of begging Boris The Sprinkler to come play in my hometown of Minneapolis, they finally did! They played with the Donnas, an all girl Ramones-type band from California, and it was so much fun!
When I got there, Nørb and Paul #1 remembered me right away. I introduced them to some of my friends, and I met their new/old drummer, Ronny Johnny Kispert, and their new/old bass player, Erik #1. (Boris is back to their original lineup, hence the new/old thing.) They also introduced me to the ever famous Time Bomb Tom. Everyone was really nice and we hung out and talked to them for a while. We ended up waiting around forever because the Crumbs, who were supposed to open, never showed up. I was somewhat disappointed because I wanted to see them, but it wasn't the end of the world since Boris was there!!
Well finally Boris played and it was great! Nørb was once again dressed up as an M&M, but this time with the antler helmet! It was so cool! He dedicated "Sheena's Got A Microwave" to me. So I felt special! They played too short of a set but it was great! I was pretty much singing along to all the songs, except a few I didn't know, which I am assuming must have been new songs. Either that or ones I hadn't heard. But it was great! Nørb had so much energy and was so fun to watch. He managed to get the microphone cord tangled around an antler at one point, which was funny. Not to mention his witty remarks. Ron and Erik #1 seemed to have their stuff together which was good. Oh, and might I add that Nørb is pretty good at the harmonica, too! (Well at least I think so.)
Afterwards my friends and I went backstage to bug the band and take pictures. It was fun. I even tried on the antler helmet! (Yay, now I feel special!) Really though, the antler helmet is totally cool. Well, I guess that pretty much sums it up for Boris The Sprinkler . . . .
I might as well say that
the Donnas were also pretty cool. The whole place was half empty
until the Donnas came on, then it got fairly packed. They were
kinda sassy chicks with cool songs. Sorry to cheat the Donnas out
of the review so much, but I guess that's just what happens when
I have to talk about my favorite band first! Oh well. They were
both good and it was a really fun time!
