Mission Statement

The Massachusetts Heart Coalition was formed to eradicate congenital heart defects. We will accomplish our goal by:
*raising the public's awareness about the number one birth defect (CHDs).
*drawing attention by speaking publicly about CHDs
*connecting individuals and families coping with CHDs with resources.
*advocating to support further research and focusing legislative attention on CHD-related issues.

Coping with congenital heart defects (CHDs) can be a difficult and lonely process. From infancy to adulthood, living with a CHD presents many challenges. From the emotional struggles we endure in countless hospital waiting rooms to the trials of finding health insurance and employment as an adult, many times families affected by CHDs are unaware that there are others facing the same struggles. They often feel cut adrift and on their own as they search for ways to navigate their daily lives. The Massachusetts Heart Coalition seeks to bring this community of people together to raise the public's awareness of the need for research and education about CHDs. By informing the public and the legislator of our unique needs, we seek to eliminate congenital heart defects

The Massachusetts Heart Coalition encourages policymakers and legislators to support those coping with Congenital Heart Defects(CHDs). By partnering with organizations like the American Heart Association and supporting appropriate advocacy efforts we hope to create positive change for many families and individuals. Evidence is mounting that the "B" vitamin Folic Acid may play a role in preventing congenital heart defects. It has also been shown to protect adult health - reducing heart disease, stroke and some forms of cancer. Protect your health and that of your unborn baby's by taking a supplement of 400 micrograms of folic acid every day! To learn more about folic acid, visit the March of Dimes website.
