Trimming the show wether's hooves is an important part of caring for your wether. You will need to evaluate your wether's hooves at least monthly and trim them accordingly to keep your wether walking straight. Without proper trimming, the hooves will become cracked, overgrown, bent and infected (hoof rot). Untrimmed hooves can actually cripple your wether. To a good job, you will need a pair of good trimmers, a hoof pick, and either a hoof file or hoof plane.
Always trim hooves 1 to 2 weeks before a show in case you accidentally cut into the quick and temporarily cripple the wether. This will allow the wether time to heal before the show.
