The Herps & Habitats Bearded Dragon MBD Page

Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) is brought about by improper calcium-to-phosporous intake, and often is charasterized by swollen jaws and knobby looking joints. The reptile may walk strangely or drag itself along rather than walking correctly like a normal healthy specimen.

Proper attention to diet is of maximum importance in captive lizards. Attention must be paid to oxalic acid content in some foods to prevent calcium binding, which in turn leads to MBD. Find out more about foods and nutritional content here.

Vitamin D3 is also a necessary ingredient in your beardies diet. Attention must be paid to brand names when choosing a supplement.
