WALLS OF SINOP

THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE WALLS STARTED AS EARLY AS 2000 BC BY THE LOCAL INHABITANS OF GASGAINS AND LATER EXPANDED BY THE MILETOES IN 770 BC.
PRESENT SITUATION OF THE WALLS FORMED IN 100 BC BY THE PONTIC EMPEROR MITHRIDATES EVAPTOR (THE GREAT MITHRIDATES). LATER THE WALLS OF SINOP
BEEN RESTORED AND INNER WALLS WERE BUILT OR ADDED BY THE ROMANS BYZANTINES CELÇUK AND OTTOMANS.
THE WALLS OF SINOP IS 2053 METERS IN LENGHT. 3 METERS WIDE AND THE HIGHT
VARIES BETWEEN 25 30 METERS.
THERE ARE MANY TOWERS AND 7 GATES ON THESE WALLS. THE OLD CITY
OF SINOP WHICH IS LOCATED ON A ISTHMUS ENCIRLCED BY THESE WALLS.
THE TOWER OF SINOP IS THE HIGHEST OF ALL THE TOWERS AND IT OCCUPIES
ABOUT 300 SQ. METERS OF LAND AREA. THE HIGHT OF THIS TOWER IS 25 METERS
FROM THE SEA LEVEL.
