Why I Love Sinead

I first saw Sinead O'Connor perform on the Grammys in 1989. I hardly knew anything about her then. She just came out and sang Mandinka and left. I found her to be refreshing and original as well as daring. It took guts for a woman to shave her head like that back then. To me, she sang like no other. The passion and attitude were delightful to me. You can now see quite a few artists copying the talented Ms. O'Connor or at least hear the influences in their music. Sinead is definitely one of the best singers of our time. Many would agree whether they be fans or not. She soothes the soul with her angelic soulful voice. All this is evident on her current release on Atlantic Records "Faith & Courage" now in Gold status.
With all the headlines and sometimes controversy that surrounds her at times, though not much lately, she is far more than that to me. People should take another look. I find her to be honest, and caring in a motherly way. Though Sinead may be complex to some, I believe she just says what she feels at the time honestly and like all of us her feelings change. She doesn't give prepared statements in interviews. She's real and a delight to listen to musically and personally. No, Sinead O'Connor isn't perfect but who among us is?
So, I love her for her humanity, her soul, her spirit, her love, her tenderness, her honesty, and for soothing my soul with her soulful music, voice and lyrics.
