The PUGDOGS-L list owner is Cindy Heavilin, Canton, OH USA sinzan@raex.com
A special thanks is extended to the people at L-SOFT for allowing us use
of this LISTSERV® site for the PUGDOGS-L list. Without them, this list would not be
possible.

ABOUT PUGDOGS-L
This list was created to provide a
forum for the discussion of all topics related to the Pug, including but not limited to
ownership, conformation, performance, health, rescue, etc. This is an open, unmoderated
forum in which all topics related to Pugs can be discussed openly and constructively, but
please keep the conversation related to issues about Pugs. We caution you to please
refrain from references to specific breeders, kennels, or dogs in your discussion for
lawsuits can and have been brought because of comments made in Internet groups such as
this. Chat about your own dogs and other members dogs on this list is fine, but it
would not be fair to talk about dogs or people that are not involved with this list.
Discussions can vary from health, welfare and genetics, to show results, handling tips,
cute Pug tails <grin> and the like. This list is for anyone wanting to know more
about the Pug, the pet owner, obedience/agility exhibitors, Pug rescue organizations and
the serious hobby breeder/exhibitor whose goals parallel my own. It is OK to say that you
have a new litter or a service that the members might be interested in, but NO pricing,
please! As per our agreement with LSoft, this is not a commercial list. Personal flames
directed to anyone on or off the list are *strongly* discouraged. Any persistent *flaming*
that occurs may result in the involuntary signoff of subscriber(s) responsible. On the
other hand, we are here to share information and learn from each other, so candid, lively
discussion is encouraged. The PUGDOGS-L list is a place for Pug lovers!
By continuing your subscription on the PUGDOGS-L List you agree
to the conditions and rules stated in this welcome.

PUGDOGS-L RULES
- Please be sure to include your "signature" (name, e-mail address, and
location) at the bottom of your post. This allows you to receive replies privately. Please
keep SIG's to a maximum of six lines.
- If your reply wouldn't interest anyone except the person you're replying to, send it
privately. Remember to check the address that you are sending the message to, before
hitting the send button (i.e. list or private address). I have seen many posts go to lists
that were meant to be private and this has resulted with a red-in-the-face sender, I know
because it has happened to me! One liners of " Congrats" "sorry"
"me too" etc., should go by private mail.
- Try to use informative subject lines for your posts. If the subject has changed
throughout the thread, change the subject line accordingly (new subject name (was re: old
subject name). If you are on DIGEST, please don't forget to change the subject line to
something pertinent to the post to which you are replying.
- If you are replying to a previous post, DO NOT include the full text of the original
post as many people receive their e-mail through services that charge based on the length
of the e-mail.Always remember to edit out the top and bottom banner, as they appear on
each new message automatically. Include only pertinent information or summarize. On the
other hand, don't reply to a previous post without at least referencing the original
discussion. If you need help with message formating, please email us at: PUGDOGS-L-REQUEST@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM
- Cross-posting is not allowed on this list. If you have a rescue post concerning a Pug,
edit out all of the headers and footers from the list that the post originated and send
only the pertinent information about the rescue and ask for replies to be sent privately.
Rescue posts should only concern Pugs and/or Pug mixes.
- Feel free to disagree with other people but refrain from personal attacks and stick to
the issues. No flames! If you are making a strong statement that is your opinion, you may
want to add IMO (in my opinion) or IMHO (in my honest/humble opinion). A first time flamer
will receive a warning. The second time the flamer will be put on review or deleted from
the list depending on the severity of the situation. Any disrespect to the list owners
concerning the management of the list will result in immediate removal from the list.
Flame: Any derogatory remark directed at a specific person or group of people.
- DO NOT send any attachments what-so-ever to the list. Messages must be sent in plain
text, not the fancy Rich Text Format (RTF).
- Do not send any virus warnings to the list or forward a message to the list, even if the
message is from a member, without clearing it through the owner first. If the
message says to send to as many people as you can, it is probably a hoax. A good
site to check out viruses and hoaxes is: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html
Never include a phone number of a non-member in a post to the list. Under no
circumstances should a message from PUGDOGS-L be forwarded to a non-member unless
permission is obtained from the author of the post. Likewise, anything sent to the
list that is not original, should be accompanied by the author's permission by virtue of
the copyright laws.
- Litter announcements are allowed to be posted once and only if the member posting is
also the litter owner.
- Feel free to ask about judges, but any replies must be sent in a private post not via
the list.
- This is not a commercial list. A line in your SIG will not be considered advertising or
a reference to your web page. A one time post announcing a business would be acceptable as
long as it pertains to something that would benefit our Pugs.
- Any post that is off topic humor should contain ***** in the subject line. Also, any
post that is controversial or heated should contain HOT TOPIC in the subject line. By
doing this, it will make it easy for those who do not wish to read posts of this type to
simply hit the delete key.
- NEVER, NEVER use an autoresponder for list mail. If you are going on vacation or unable
to pick up your mail, just set your subscription to NOMAIL. Anyone using an autoresponder
will be deleted from the list and will then have to resubscribe to the list.
- PUGDOGS-L is not to be used for any
illegal or illicit purposes.
- By continuing your subscription to
PUGDOGS-L, you agree abide by these rules and the conditions in this Welcome message and
the Disclaimer.
- List membership is a
privilege, not a right.
All decisions made by the list owners are final. The bottom line is that your list
administrators may add, remove or review your subscription as they see fit. If you have a
problem with the list management, a decision by the list owners, need help or advice about
the list or even have something nice to say :-), your message should be sent OFF-LIST to:PUGDOGS-L-REQUEST@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM
This address will reach anyone involved in management of PUGDOGS-L and it will also
send you an auto-response of a brief summary of LISTSERV® commands.
- TOPICS At this point we have only two topics. ADMIN & PUGCHAT Everyone
must be subscribed to ADMIN. PUGCHAT is an optional topic. This topic is reserved only for
our prolific, Puglish speaking Pugs. <grin> ADMIN is only for use by the list
administrators. Directions for this option are as follows: If your post falls into the
PUGCHAT category, please use the topic PUGCHAT. The topic must follow a certain syntax.
The topic name must be spelled *exactly* as shown in the example below. The topic must be
followed by a colon, NOT a dash, space, or ellipsis, or for that matter, any other
punctuation mark.
Here are some examples:
PUGCHAT:Gertie sez Hi! ---> *** correct ***
PUGCHAT...Wolf sez hi, 2 WRONG (no colon after topic)
If you want to receive the PUGCHAT topic, then don't change anything at all. You will get
the PUGCHAT along with regular list mail. If you do not want to get the topic PUGCHAT then
send a message to:listserv@apple.ease.lsoft.com
in the body of the message put:
SET PUGDOGS-L TOPICS: ALL -PUGCHAT
(just copy & paste the above line)
The minus sign *-* is important. It must precede PUGCHAT if you DO NOT wish to receive
these posts. You will receive an acknowledgment message from LISTSERV.
Note:
This is a privately-administrated list, and as such, there is no "right to free
speech" (To U.S. citizens: Constitutional right to free speech is limited to the
U.S.Government ONLY. If you would like more information on this subject, please refer to
the Cyber-Law web site, at: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/eff/Legal/CyberLaw_Course/cyberlaw.040
A very clear quote from this site, reads:
"Determine whether the *government* is imposing the speech restriction. U.S.
Constitutional free speech guarantees apply only to the government (any federal, state, or
local agency, including public universities and public employers). If the speech
restriction is imposed by a *private* entity, the First Amendment does NOT apply."

To view the archives or check your
options, go to:
http://apple.ease.lsoft.com/archives/index.html
Past archives of PUGDOGS-L (called
LOGs) are available for downloading by subscribers to the list. They are saved on a
monthly basis. Archives are kept for 6 months. A list of the archives available can be
retrieved by sending in the command: INDEX PUGDOGS-L which sends you the start date of
each LOG. To retrieve a LOG, send in the command GET PUGDOGS-L LOGYYMMWW where YY= the
year and MM = the month (must use two digits) and ww=week in alphabetical format (for
first week use A, for second week use B, etc. For example, the log for the first week in
January 1997 would beLOG9701A. You can also *search* the archives for certain words if you
want previous posts that mention something specific. The command is: SEARCH 'searchstring'
IN PUGDOGS-L but replace the word 'searchstring' with whatever text you want to search
for. If you want to do something that is not noted above, use the HELP command in your
mail message. Also: When you send a command message to the LISTSERV, you can have multiple
commands per message, just make sure that you put a separate command on each line of the
message and do NOT include your signature at the end. If your address starts to bounce,
the List Owner will either put you on NOMAIL or unsubscribe you, depending on what the
bounce messages say. If you stop receiving mail, check your status using the QUERY option.
For techie problems or other issues related to PUGDOGS-L, please send email to the List
Owners (not to the List). Include a detailed description of what went wrong. Ideally,
enclose the full text, including the headers, of any error messages that you get. The
default for this list is DIGEST REPRO, which means that all the messages will be sent in
two or three DIGESTS per day and you receive a copy of the message that you posted. If you
would prefer to have the messages sent to you individually, use the command: SET PUGDOGS-L
MAIL If you are not seeing some people's return address and you want more information in
your headers: SET PUGDOGS-L DUALHDR
IMPORTANT: The list of subscribers is not available by command.
