HOSTAGE

by Teresa

Inspired by the part in the episode 'Reunions' where Freeman holds Lucas at gun point. Written when I hadn't seen the episode (still haven't). A hundred thanks to Diena for re-iterating the events of that episode (and other episodes) in detail over and over.

Lucas tried hard to look as though he was unafraid as Freeman held him tightly, pushing the gun into his ribcage.

He knew that it was all in vain. Freeman could feel his heart beat from the way he had his other arm wrapped around his chest to keep him in place.

He could here him speaking, but he didn't process the words.

It wasnt long before Freeman pushed the gun into his side harder. He winced. Freeman wanted him to move. Lucas didnt see the point in resisting so he walked in the direction he was being led.

Freeman walked behind him, pushing the gun into his back and gripping Lucas' left arm tightly.

The entered a room that was completely empty, save for a few electronic stations. The room looked like some sought of communications area.

Freeman pushed Lucas roughly. The teenager tripped and landed hard on his knees. "Ow!" he cried.

Freeman put the gun to his head and Lucas realised he was facing a blank wall, "Hands up against the wall," Deon's hetchman told him.

Lucas complied, slowly. Freeman grabbed his hands one by one and cuffed them together behind his back.

Just when Lucas thought he would back off he felt the villain grab the back of his collar and slam him up against the wall, "You try anything," he warned viciously, bringing his mouth right up against Lucas' ear, "and I will snap every bone in your body one by one."

Lucas turned slowly, and looked the madman in the eye. He nodded slowly.

Freeman shoved Lucas up against the wall one last time and left him. Lucas closed his eyes, breathing heavily.

It wasn’t long before two more men came in and hauled Lucas up one by each arm. They didn’t even say hi.

They dragged Lucas back to where the other hostages were. He could see by their frightened faces that nothing much had been resolved since he had left them.

The two men let go of Lucas' arms and dropped him to the ground. This time Lucas was careful to catch his fall with his other foot.

"Been behaving yourself?" Lucas turned to look at the voice. It was Freeman.

The other hostages were hushed.

The young officer nodded slowly as he watched Freeman come toward him.

"Well that's a shame," he said, slapping a black baton up against his palm, "I was hoping to have a reason to hurt you."

Lucas swallowed violently and backed up, running into one of the men who had taken him back into the room.

“Hey!” one of the braver male hostages called, “Leave him alone! Why don’t you pick on someone your own size!”

Freeman turned around and looked at the man sourly, “That’s because the people here my size won’t have any affect on the people I’m trying to convince.”

He spun around and rammed the baton front on into Lucas stomach.

“Urgh!” Lucas grunted and doubled over, the force of the blow sending him down to his knees.

The man behind him made no attempt to keep him standing. Freeman circled him, deciding on whether or not to hit him again.

Lucas cried out loudly as the baton slammed down onto his back. He collapsed to the ground completely, landing on his stomach.

“There’s more where that came from,” Freeman told him.

Lucas stayed lying on the ground as he listened to Freeman walk away from him. Once he was certain that the criminal was a safe enough distance away from him he tested his body.

"Are you alright, son?"

Lucas winced slightly as he looked up at the man who had tried to protect him before and nodded slightly, "Yeah," he said carefully.

The man helped him sit up against the same wall that was lined with hostages. Lucas closed his eyes, waiting for the pain to dissipate.

"That guy seems to have a bone to pick with you," he commented.

Lucas nodded, "Yeah, I guess you could see we have an ongoing feud between us and him."

"By 'us', you mean the SeaQuest?" the man asked.

Lucas nodded, recovering slowly, "Yeah."

"What does he want from us?"

"From us?" Lucas asked rhetorically, "Nothing. From the UEO, safe passage I would assume." Lucas pursed his lips, "He's probably on his way out to exploit more innocent people."

"How is hurting you going to get him safe passage through UEO waters?"

Lucas stared ahead seriously, "I don't know."

"What's your position on the SeaQuest anyway?" the man asked. Lucas started to wonder when the questions were going to stop.

"I'm uh, chief computer analyst and science officer," Lucas looked over at him.

The man had been looking at him intently, "That's a pretty high position for someone your age," he commented, "My son's at college. He's studying vetenary science."

Lucas smiled and nodded.

The man moved away from him quickly, "They're coming back!" he said.

Lucas stood slowly as Freeman approached him smiling, "Mr Wolenczak."

Freeman’s two 'henchman' grabbed Lucas' arms, one of them twisting his arm right up behind his back. Lucas winced visibly as they pushed him forwards, dragging him after Freeman and out of the room.

"Would you like to speak to your Captain?"

It was a rhetorical question. The two men led Lucas into the large room which displayed the vidscreen.

Hudson was on screen. Lucas could see that he was on the bridge, surrounded by the worried faces of some of the other crew.

The man twisting his arm behind his back twisted it violently so that Lucas was forced to wince and bend his back awkwardly.

Freeman walked towards him, “Now, Captain, have you given my request anymore thought.”

Hudson shot Freeman a worn out stare, “Of course, Freeman. Don’t think threatening my crew is going to win you any favours.”

Freeman looked at him in mock suprise, “Oh really, so the boy is no use to me then?”

Hudson lifted an eyebrow angrily, “I’m sure we can come to some kind of agreement that is beneficial for the both of us.”

Freeman looked at him, “Agreement? You let us into Macronesia. We let the hostages go. That’s the agreement. Take it or leave it?”

“Mr. Freeman, if I just allow you to take one of my most valuable crew members into Macronesia how can I assure that we will ever get him back?”

“I’m sure you’ll think of something, Captain.” Freeman smirked.

“That’s not an option, and you know it,” Hudson told him angrily.

Freeman slammed the baton into Lucas’ stomach again. Lucas opened his mouth and let out a small grunt of pain and surprise. This time, the two men held him up in his awkward position. Lucas gritted his teeth at the shock sent through his left shoulder.

Hudson closed his eyes briefly and Freeman smiled at the reaction.

“Leave him alone, Freeman!”

Despite the fact that they couldn’t help him, Lucas felt strengthened by Ford’s voice.

Lucas looked up at Freeman, “Knock it off,” he said sourly.

At his table, O’Neill smiled to himself at Lucas’ courage despite the situation.
