Installing an aftermarket tachometer in your 91-96 Escort LX or Pony

Disclaimer:  *This guide is intended to show you where to hookup your aftermarket tachometer in your 91-96 Escort LX or Pony.  I won't be held responsible if you break anything or if anything happens to your car.

I have seen many requests for help on how to install and aftermarket tach in an escort.  I did mine myself and this will show you how to make it work.
First you should hook up the power wire (red) to a fuse in the fuse box.  I hooked mine to the "meter" fuse.  I would recommend this one or the "room" fuse, as it shouldn't effect anything important if something happens.

Then you hook up the ground (black) directly to the negative battery terminal.  You could use a chassis ground but it's recommend to ground to the battery to guarantee interference-free operation of the tach.

Next you want to hook the wire for the light.  I spliced mine in the dimmer for the console lights.  Just test it on each wire to see which is the power and will make it light up.

Now is the one that nobody seems to know, the green signal wire.

The green wire supplies the RPM signal to the tach.   If you have a stock tach already there may be some way to splice it inside the dash, but I'm not sure.  The way I did it is like this:

1.  Find the EDIS4 module in your engine bay.  It is located in front of the shock tower on the driver's side, bolted with a bracket on the fender.  Here's a look at it-

2.  Now you will see that the plug on the EDIS module has a lot of wires on it.  You want the wire that is second from the left if you are looking at the above picture.  On some cars there is not even a wire there.   If this is so, all you do is connect your green signal wire to the internal contact on the EDIS module.  If there is a wire, it should be yellow with a dark blue stripe.   You can simply splice your signal wire to this one if it is there.

3.  Here is a look at my wires, just for reference.  I had no wire on mine so I connected it to the contact internally and it works great.

The green wire to the left is the tach signal wire.  It doesn't look like it from this angle, but it is in the second hole.

After connecting the wires start up the car and see if your new tach works.  If it doesn't, double check all your connections and try again.
