How to use IRC
Last Updated 10 Dec 1998

Step 1:
Download an IRC client, one of the most popular is mIRC. Which is available from www.mirc.co.uk. Follow the instructions there to install it.

Step 2: Run mIRC. If a window with a picture of a wierd looking guy comes up, click to close it.

Step 3: The mIRC Setup box should pop up. From the list choose Random DALNet server.

Step 4: Fill in the Full Name, email address, and Nickname fields, then make sure Invisible mode is checked (it prevents you from receiving messages you don't want to, and trust me, it knows which messages you don't want)

Step 5: Click the Local Info folder. Make sure the Local Host and IP Address fields are blank (mIRC fills them in itself) everything else can be left as is.

Step 6: Click the Options folder, uncheck Connect at startup and Move server to top of list on connect if you wish. Reconnect on disconnect and Pop up setup dialog should be checked.  If they aren't it's a good idea to check them.

Step 7: Click the Identd folder. Make sure Enabled Identd server is checked (check or uncheck it by clicking on the box to the left of it). Fill in the User ID (it can be anything you want). Leave the System and Listen on port fields alone. If you wish, you can also check Show Identd Requests, it doesn't make any difference to most users.

Step 8: Click on the IRC Servers folder again, then click the Connect to IRC server! button.

Step 9: When you are connected, the mIRC Channels Folder box should pop up. Type #WAM_Mud where it says "Enter name of channel to join", then click the Add button, followed by the Join button. IMPORTANT from now on, when the mIRC Channels Folder box comes up, choose #WAM_Mud from the list and click the Join button.
