1. Easy Petitions: Minnesota Forces. (Forces, The Smoker's Club, Inc., Smokers Fighting Discrimination.) Get in early on the first, National Smokers' Coalition Action Petition Drive. Add your voice, and give it Power! SIGN UP ONE TIME and lend your voice to a call for fairness in the ongoing tobacco war.

2. Heil Health: By Pierre Lemieux. The Nazis were our forerunners in health fascism, but we still have to learn the lesson.

3. Smoking and Life Expectancy: Forest. The anti-smoking industry constantly bombards the public with figures claiming that smokers have reduced life expectancy and higher disease rates than non-smokers. However, this does not appear to be the case when one examines life expectancy and disease rates in other countries where the proportion of adults who smoke is much higher than in Britain.

4. Antismoking Campaign Has Opposite Effect: Smokers Of The World Unite A bold attempt by New Zealand's government to get smokers to quit may have backfired.

5. Surprise -- Smoking May Offer Health Value: By Richard Watts. It's probably something your doctor will never admit. But, in a few cases, it appears smoking can be good for you.

6. Cops Always Have The Best Marlboros - A modest proposal for the tobacco companies: By Dave Hitt. Within two weeks most smokers will be dry and every store will be sold out of anything even slightly related to tobacco. The Nannies, having suffered severe beatings from mobs of twitchy smokers, will be in deep hiding.

7. For Media People Doing Research: The Index of Articles Page for this newsletter is the fastest way to find information for your project.

8. We Are Everyday People:
*** WARNING: Use of Targon Fresh Mint Smokers' Mouthwash May Cause Smokers To Smile: Block Drug Company. Smokers and non-smokers across America are choosing Targon Smokers' Mouthwash and smiling brighter! Now, a new flavor gives smokers something additional to smile about, new Targon Fresh Mint! Lee Lydon's view.
*** Will P.E.T.A. have the last laugh? The Hittman Chronicle. Having failed in their attempts to scare people away from meat, AR activists are now advocating a meat tax. Don’t underestimate them: they know the power to tax is the power to destroy. Since meat is unhealthy and ruining the ecology, they argue, it should be heavily taxed and the revenue should be used to subsidize vegetables. In other words, meat-eaters owe them dinner.
*** Check Your IQ Test: Rozie's. It's a fun test to take and gives you an estimated IQ score.
*** Fact Free Cigar Advice: (Comedy) By Dr. Dave. When experienced cigar smokers discuss the origin of their favorite smokes the location they mention most often is, of course, Utica, New York.
*** Truth In Advertising: Chickenhead. A collection of vintage cigarette advertisements from the age of innocence.

When Hitler came for the Jews... I was not a Jew, therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics, I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists, I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned. Then, Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church — and there was nobody left to be concerned.
—Pastor Martin Niemoller, Congressional Record, October 14, 1968, vol. 114, p. 31636.

Because of the British Columbia Capital Regional District (CRD) initiated court action against 6 establishments deemed not to be complying with their 'clean-air' bylaw, FORCES International has today set up a special section in an endeavor to assist the Victoria Freedom of Choice Coalition (FOCC).

This is a 'first' for FORCES - complete with a voice message. The direct URL is: http://www.forces.org/canada/focc/index.htm

As you know, this is Canada's first regional test ban on public smoking. Its success depends on whether or not it's ENFORCEABLE. The FOCC is fighting to retain choice on this issue - please lend your support.

Watch out New Mexico!

Santa Fe City Councilor Cris Moore and at least two of his fellow councilors are seeking to nix nicotine in the city's workplaces, restaurants, elevators, restrooms, buses, taxicabs and - perhaps most wrenching for smokers who consider them their last refuge - bars.
